UN Audit: Millions Squandered in Sudan

Business as Usual at the U.N.

"There are reports in Juba of U.N. workers served luxurious brunches by five-star chefs while southern Sudanese outside scramble to piece together paltry school tuition fees. It is nothing short of a travesty."

-- Church Alliance for a New Sudan Director, Faith J.H. McDonnell

Corruption in a United Nations operation?

This is becoming a "dog bites man" story.

Still, how corrupt does an operation have to be for the United Nations to declare it stinks?
Tens of millions of dollars have been wasted in peacekeeping operations in Sudan over the past three years according to a new report issued by the U.N. Office for International Oversight Services. The audit slams the U.N. for having poor internal control mechanisms and for tolerating mismanagement in the war-torn country.

U.N. auditors have identified dozens of irregularities according to The Washington Post, including an "exorbitant" rate on a contract to supply gravel for peacekeeping barracks and $1.2 million in "unnecessary expenditures" for block bookings of hotel rooms that the United Nations was unable to fill.

Several instances of corruption were also cited in the report, including U.N. purchasing agents diverting contracts to companies that provided visa sponsorships and inappropriate financial compensation.

Faith J.H. McDonnell, Director of IRD's Church Alliance for a New Sudan, commented:
"The greatest tragedy here is that a little money can go a long way in helping those Sudanese who are in need. While nonprofit aid organizations and churches can do wonders with just a few hundred or thousand dollars, the U.N. wastes millions. The lost opportunities are staggering.

Another reason for Americans to voice their disapproval at U.S. tax dollars that fund the luxury career diplomat corruption machine that the United Nations has become.

The truly amazing thing about this story is that United Nations auditors blew the whistle on the operation in Sudan.

Usually, the United Nations is fighting attempts to look into the inner workings of its operations--every step of the way.

The other story will be how many MSM outlets pick up this story.

The United Nations has become the perfect symbol of European type "action" to solve the world's problems.

It's little wonder there is so much enthusiasm for it in the Democrat party.

Polish Exorcisms Available For Internet Addicts

Exorcisms are on the rise in Poland and across Europe with more trained priests ready to battle the Devil, evil, and the requisite demons who accompany them. We decided to look into the Ritual of Exorcism and the steps taken to perform one.

According to a story in the Boston Globe there's been a resurgence in exorcisms performed by Catholic priests and other exorcist trained laymen. Courses are being taught in a Catholic university in Rome in exorcisms and the Church, in 1999, formally "revised and upheld the ritual for the first time in almost 400 years."

According to the Church, evil is on an upswing with people's lax attitudes about attending Mass and exposure to "doors of evil" such as New Age therapies, alternative religions, internet junkies and yoga enthusiasts.

Plans are under way in Poland to build the area's only ExorcismsRus center:
The Rev. Andrzej Trojanowski, a soft-spoken Pole, plans to build a "spiritual oasis" that will serve as Europe's only center dedicated to performing exorcisms. With the blessing of the local Catholic archbishop and theological support from the Vatican, the center will aid a growing number of Poles possessed by evil forces or the devil himself, he said.
The website, St. Michael, has some tips on whether one is actually possessed by demons and what to avoid in order to stay away from potential demon-infested activities:
  • The Ouija board is a popular occult board game and there is also Dungeons and Dragons. Satan's main target in Dungeons and Dragons game is our youth. With Dungeons and Dragons, the most powerful and successful players are those who use magic. There is a Dungeons Master Guide that even teaches new beginners how to communicate with the dead, cast spells, and learn to chant.
  • The use of magic revolves around evil spirits, psychic abilities and contacting spirits. Magic is a power that does not involve God. It is a power that is derived from such things as voodoo, sorcery, primitive religions and Satanism. Most witches who use magic swear that they do not worship Satan but worship the gods and goddesses of nature (The gods and goddesses of nature are hardly Jesus Christ! Of course they worship Satan! Do not let someone who practices this occult tell you otherwise!). Many of these individuals are unknown because they blend in quite well. They can be found attending church services in every denomination and they practice their magic on the side. If someone tells you white magic is ok--don't believe them!!
  • Use of new age tools such as crystals, divination, astrology, tarot cards, crystal balls, reincarnation, pendulums, Yoga, Transcendental Meditation
  • Those who make a pact with Satan or attend Satanic services or rituals.
  • Going to Séances, fortune tellers, Horoscopes, or spiritualist meetings for the purpose of contact the dead.
  • Those who use alcohol or mind changing drugs such as LSD, cocaine, marijuana
  • Sex out of wedlock, active homosexuals, masturbation, adultery
  • Those who have an abortion
  • Those who try to commit suicidal or have suicidal tendencies.
  • There are also ways the "innocent" can be victimized by evil:
In some cases, evil spirits enter an innocent victim. The victim may be an unborn baby who is cursed from the mother's womb. The curse can be from a jealous relative, friend, enemy, or even the child's own parents.

Innocent victims may also include children who are not loved, who are mistreated or abused or rejection by other children, siblings, parents, etc. The abuse can range from sexual abuse, mental abuse, or physical abuse.

There are standard rules and procedures when performing an exorcism such as the priest wearing an alb and purple stole before he begins the prayer. He will make the sign of the cross over the demon possessed and then wrap one end of the stole around the victim's neck:
One may have two normal sized stoles sewn together in order to have a very long stole to extend from the priest to the victim's neck. It is truly amazing how the blessed stole calms and controls the possessed person. Certainly one initially may encounter violent reactions, but that is to be expected. The stole not only symbolizes, but demonstrates the power of the priesthood. Jesus binds the evil spirits with the use of this sacramental.
The priest is instructed to place his right hand on the devil inflicted's head and a Bible must be close by for "questioning and commanding the demons to respond."

One wonders what type of rapport the priest finds when conversing with the demons who possess the poor victim? Are some demons better spoken, have a higher intellect than others?

The Bible comes in handy as some poor souls point out to the priest the "avenue" with which evil was able to enter them:
After invoking the Holy Spirit, there is surprising response and confirmation, which are keys to opening up and freeing the person. For example, a woman who had been a war orphan revealed through scripture that she was not baptized. Another woman opened the Bible to Tobias where it stated that she was not married in the church. A couple opened the Bible to the Old testament reading on abortion, which confirmed, at some point to unforgiven sin. Others opened to a passage focusing on a generational curse. While still others read a verse on incest in the family. One girl indicated the story of Jacob and Essau. Her twin brother was murdered at three months of age. She was the second to be born and like Jacob became the first through infanticide. Others have indicated a need for greater humility, faith and fasting. The Rite of Exorcism uses passages from Jn. 1:1-14; Mk. 16:15-18; Lk. 1:17-20; Lk. Source - St. Michael

Relics must be on hand, those are the rules. The "relics" must be "first class," those of a saint. Handkerchiefs touched by St. Paul, the "shadow" of St. Peter, or the Blessed Sacrament of Jesus.

Medals also come in handy. The medal of St. Benedict is known for warding of evil spirits along with the scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and the Rosary.

    The Rosary
The blessing of the rosary states, "Nos eriperes de potestate diaboli" Our Lord Jesus Christ through His life, death and resurrection has "snatched us from the power of the devil." Abundant graces are granted through proper recitation of the rosary, "Ab omni hoste visibili et invisibili et ubíque in hoc sáeculo liberetur" (from every enemy both visible and invisible and everywhere in this lifetime be freed). St. Dominic freed a heretic from 15,000 devils, when the man had blasphemed the Blessed Mother and the Rosary. St. Dominic preached on the fifteen mysteries of the rosary and asked the faithful to pray and meditate. For every mystery, 1,000 demons left him in the form of burning coals until he was delivered. The rosary is the chain that Our Lady uses to bind Satan. It is often seen in a possessed individual, that the demon is irritated and they complain that the rosary burns them and they often destroy the rosary. Source - St. Michael

The Crucifix is essential, "symbolic of the defeat of Satan through the death of Christ."
The long prayer for Solemn Blessing of the Crucifix, "Ut quóties triúmphum divínae humnilitátis, quae supérbiam nostri hostis dejecit" and (how often the divine humility has triumphed casting out the pride of our enemy). "Dignáre respícere, bene + dícere et Sancti + ficáre hanc creaturm incensi, ut omnes languores, omnesque imfirmitates, atque insidiar inimici, odorem ejus sentientes, efffugiant, et separatur a plasmate tuo; ut num quam lædatur amorsu antiqui serpentes" (Deign to care for bless and sanctify those being inflamed by passion and weakness, any sickness, deceits of the foe and suspicious resentments felt by them. Be cast out and driven away from your creature) and "Numquam lædatur a morsu antiqui derpentis" (Never to be hurt by the bite of the ancient serpent). Source - St. Michael
Guidelines have been established as to who can perform an exorcism. Priests must have explicit permission from higher-ups, the priest must be pious, prudent and have personal integrity.

The priest must be versed in all the tricks and shenanigans pulled by the evil entity.

The priest must be aware that "certain species" of the Devil cannot be overthrown unless faced with "prayer and fasting."

During the exorcism no ad-libbing by the priest. Only the words of the Bible must be used. The priest must also command the evil dweller to state just how he entered the host.

The priest must be humble and rely only on God for direction. The priest must remember that evil spirits may lie and not tell the truth. The priest must refrain from asking the demon any questions outside the reference of the Bible and exorcism, such as "what does your mother think about you being a demon?" or "just when did you "go evil?"

In summary, according to St. Michael, it is only through prayer, fasting, and humility on the part of the priest and the willingness of the victim to get rid of their demons can an exorcism be successful.

We wondered if those who became possessed through the internet, if the computer used could be also be considered a "vessel of evil" and therefore, should be destroyed?

There you have it, evil is on the rise throughout the world and the Church is responding by recognizing its centuries old, but still effective manner of ridding poor infected souls of the devil and his minions, exorcism.

Unfortunately for Americans, with a lifestyle that just begs evil to enter their souls, there's an acute shortage of qualified, highly trained exorcism specialists on hand, and since you are reading this with the help of the internet, you too, might just be in the same boat as us, possessed by evil.

If one can afford it, place yourself on the Polish Exorcist Center's waiting list, where an exorcism is just a passport and plane ticket away.

    Google Evaluates the Candidates

What Google Tells Us About the Candidates

If you're the kind of voter who casts their ballot according to the candidates' stands on Internet issues, this story might just be your ticket.

If you're the kind of voter who casts their ballot according to how popular the candidates are on-line, this also might be the story you're looking for.
Obama has 271,000 MySpace friends, compared to Hillary's 181,000, and McCain's disappointing 44,000.

Jason Lee Miller has written a piece for WebProNews on how the candidates stacked up based on their appearance at Google's HQ in California.

He looks at Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for the Democrats, and John McCain for the Republicans.

It's interesting and a video of each candidate at Google was found on YouTube.

This was the summary of each.

    OBAMA

If you're the type of person who listens to what President Bush says and thinks we should do the opposite, then Obama's your man. In this Editor & Publisher report, Bush called McCain a "true conservative" (a statement Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingram and Coulter might all disagree with), and said Hillary was "well-prepared for the job." And Barack? Bush doesn't like Obama's lack of foreign policy experience. And if anybody knows about bad foreign policy, it's Bush.

    That's the last time. Honestly.

Obama's well-liked at the Googleplex, especially since he was the only candidate to answer correctly CEO Eric Schmidt's Google employment question, which is about "the most efficient way to sort a million 32-bit integers."

He answered "I think the bubble sort would be the wrong way to go." That's apparently correct because the crowd applauded. Giving me a math problem is like putting a chimp at the helm of an atom-smasher. Still, I think this is the correct answer: "Give them to a Google employee."

    Obama at Google

Net Neutrality is a big Internet issue at the moment.

Google employees wanted to know about how the candidates felt about that particular issue, and Lee fills in the blanks.

During that interview, Obama voiced support for Network Neutrality (a topic you're unlikely to hear about off the Internet), and unveiled his technological plan for the nation, which included the appointment of a Chief Technical Officer to help make the government more transparent online.

As far as utilizing the Internet in his campaign goes, he's been early and aggressive online, making use of YouTube, MySpace, and Google AdWords, especially to ward off a smear campaign suggesting he was Muslim. That question, by the way,—whether he's Muslim—is the top Google suggestion for "Obama is…."

"Smear" here is in the eye of the beholder. There are legitimate questions concerning Obama, religion and his religious advisers. None of those questions constitute a "smear" in the classic sense of the word.

However, "smear" has come to mean "any unpleasant questions" in the modern political lexicon.

    McCAIN

Google Suggest suggests that McCain is an insane, liberal traitor, or at best an old conservative. But if you're the type to go against anything MoveOn.org says, which has thrown it's support via donated money and advertising to Obama, then McCain's your man.

And he's earned your support. For every dollar McCain's campaign spent online he earned $4 in campaign donations. Not a bad return at all. His email campaign did better, pulling $189 average donations at a cost of $8 per donor. He's savvy when it comes to Internet campaigning, utilizing AdWords, AdSense, and MySpace to bolster support.

His ads don't always hit the mark. Some of his AdSense flyovers ended up in enemy territory thanks to some faulty contextual targeting. And he had to diffuse a McCain googlebomb at some point, which seems to have been unsuccessful. His attack on Hillary worked pretty well though.

While visiting the Googleplex, Schmidt let McCain off the hook by not making him answer the efficient bit-sorting thing, and McCain struck a cord with Googlers with this nugget:

“If Google is going to be able to maintain its supremacy in the world, it is going to have to continue to get the best and the brightest from all over the world, and I accept with your gigantic egos, that you are the best…we need an H1B visa program that works.”

But he wasn't pandering. Soon after, a Googler got the "McCain story" Rick Santorum was talking about as the two of them argued about the war in Iraq. And McCain wasn't exactly gentle. And he's still kind of mad at Google and Yahoo for their involvements with China.

He's against Net Neutrality, believing the market will right itself without government intervention. That might be why he took in $0 from Yahoo, and just $1,550 from Google. Don't feel bad for him though, McCain has mentioned making Cisco CEO John Chambers a cabinet member. Cisco doesn't like Net Neutrality either, especially with all the network filtering equipment they make.

And lastly, Hillary Clinton showed up at the Googleplex to talk to the Google employees.

As per usual, she came with a set of pre-conditions.

    CLINTON

Google Suggest isn't kind to Sen. Clinton, either, suggesting she "is" a fake, a joke, even the devil. Slate compared her to General Electric, the "mega-cap blue-chip, a juggernaut of the 1990s," but I like the comparison to Microsoft better, especially if Obama is Google.

In fact, out of Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft, Clinton pulled in the most from Mr. Softy, the Beast of Redmond, and carried Silicon Valley, too. She also has visited the Googleplex, but unfortunately, it looks like Clinton specified "no math questions" before Schmidt was allowed to interview her.

The piece winds up with the following: "Rest assured, just like Microsoft with Google, wherever Obama is, there you'll find Clinton, too, especially online. In AdWords, on YouTube and MySpace."

    And there you have it.

The handicapping of the candidates, according to Google.

While we think Google is an exceptional search engine, we're not so sure about its political advisory capabilities.

After all, in campaign season, it becomes just another interest group.

    Economics of Envy: The Reality

    About that Shrinking Middle Class...

“When the rich get richer, the poor get richer as well.”

    –Peter Lynch

Red Planet Cartoon's latest offering, "About that Shrinking Middle Class..." has a great presentation on where the American middle class is headed: UP. Facts and figures that may surprise a few people--especially those predicting gloom and doom for the American middle class.

Of course, the class envy warriors (The Democrats and John McCain, notably, among Republicans) would have you believe that the only shrinkage is because everyone is headed down the ladder of economic ladder of opportunity.

It was once suggested that anyone who is interested in running for political office in America be required to take a basic Economics class. We doubt that would solve the problem of class envy demogouges.

However, the class envy warriors would be less effective if there was a requirement that everyone who wanted to vote was required to take a basic economics course.

If you don't have the time for the Econ 101 class, wander over to Red Planet and you'll fill your requirement for today.

Media Matters Calls for "Action" against MSNBC over Clinton Remarks

Clinton Media Group Has Panties in a Bunch

Media Matters' David Brock recently testified
(in the MM newsletter) about the scurvy journalism
practiced at MSNBC against MM beneficiary, Hillary Clinton.

"As a journalist, I cherish Oscar Wilde's opinion of sincerity: He called it "the highest form of acting." Few of my subjects have told the whole truth, though many were honest. That's why the best reporters multi-source their stories. But there's no way to check out David Brock's account of his illustrious career as a professional liar."
    --Richard Goldstein

Media Matters, the Hillary Clinton-sponsored front group--which tries to pass itself off as an impartial "press watchdog"--has issued its weekly newsletter.

If you're looking for a source of unintended laughter, you could do worse than get on its mailing list--we did.

    It rarely disappoints.

Last fall, Media Matters was busy attacking popular conservative commentators over their philosophical disagreements with liberal/progressive issues.

With Hillary Clinton locked in a nomination dog-fight, Media Matters has dropped its pretenses of looking out for all liberals and focused on those it feels are biting the hand that feeds MM.

This week's Media[About Hillary]Matters' target is foaming-at-the-mouth liberal network, MSNBC.

What did the network of Kountdown Keith Olbermann and Chris Mathews do that has upset the "media about Hillary watchdog"?

Well, they've made the same remarks about the former first lady usually reserved for conservatives. MM mouthpiece, David Brock, is obviously concerned that some regular viewers may become confused and think Clinton is running on the Republican ticket.
During the past year, three MSNBC commentators have been suspended, reprimanded, fired, or forced to apologize for their sexist and/or racist comments. Rather than address these problems by proactively moving to make certain they do not happen in the first place, MSNBC has instead decided to use these controversies as part of an advertising campaign to promote its political coverage.

That's right -- MSNBC has turned the recent mea culpa by Hardball host Chris Matthews for his sexist comments into an advertising campaign, using clips of his statement to push MSNBC programming. Left on the cutting room floor, of course, are the portions in which Matthews acknowledged having been "callous," "nasty," and "dismissive" toward Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Thank God for the Imus affair, or the MM newsletter would have had to been declared a Clinton contribution under campaign finance law.

Reaction was swift when Media Matters first called itself
an impartial "press watchdog", with no links to Hillary Clinton.

Brock goes onto to lament the coverage of another MSNBC newsperson who deviated from the lapdog position.
The latest example of the systemic problem of sexism and misogyny on MSNBC's airwaves came last week from correspondent David Shuster when he stated, while talking about Chelsea Clinton's campaign activities on behalf of her mother, "doesn't it seem like Chelsea's sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way" by Sen. Clinton's presidential campaign. Following criticism from many who found Shuster's comments indefensible and demeaning, MSNBC suspended Shuster indefinitely and aired an apology from him that evening.

Of course, MSNBC wouldn't suspend one of its newscasters for remarks made about either President Bush or conservatives--Olbermann alone has labeled Bush as "stupid" and "facist". But it did after a wayward comment about Chelsea Clinton.

But for this "press watchdog", suspension is not enough: they want the reader to take action!

The newsletters says "news organizations like NBC News and MSNBC have a sacred duty to be good stewards of accurate, balanced, and responsible political discourse."

It may be a first for Media Matters: using the word "sacred" in a sentence without the accompanying words: "dumbass", "conservative" or "Christians".

"Media Matters is a "press watchdog"?
"Impartial"?? Stop it! You're killing me!!"

The newsletter ended on a call to "take action today - contact MSNBC president, Steve Capus".

    We just might.

    Soon as we quit laughing.
