Jennifer Moss: Pastie Lady Exposes Environmental Goodies

Environmental activism and a tan

Ojai, California has an environmental activist that might be too liberal for even this liberal-leaning city of 8,000.

Ojai is the home of Jennifer Moss, "The Pastie Lady". Clad only in a G-string and flower shaped pasties, Moss pedals her bicycle around Ojai in her attention-grabbing get-up and campaigns for what she considers good causes.

In the year that "social artist" Moss has been "performing" for the environment, on Ojai's main drag, she's been arrested twice--and repeatedly ticketed for obstructing traffic.
Irate parents have asked the City Council to force Moss to put on more clothes. Now she may face prosecution for public indecency.

"The issue we're looking at is exposure," said Jim Ellison, Ventura County's chief assistant district attorney. "We've assigned an attorney to do some research."

The artsy town is divided over Jennifer Moss's antics.

To some, she's too liberal, even for Ojai.

"Ojai tolerance is not eternal," local filmmaker Leland Hammerschmitt wrote in a guest editorial in the Ojai Valley News, in which he scolded Moss for her "naked narcissism." "You've had more than your day. Go away. Just stop."

The tools of Jennifer Moss's environmental activist trade

But "The Pastie Lady" has her backers, too. Two particular causes of Moss involve natural fibers and "the healing powers of water".

They say "Earth Friend Jen" is not hurting anyone and that naysayers should leave her alone.

"In the South, they actually embrace you if you are eccentric or even a little crazy. . . .," Dusty Fernandez, an Oak View resident, wrote in the paper. "So lighten up people! Enjoy the view or turn the other way."

Moss has her own view.
"Nudity is natural, but a lot of people are uncomfortable with it," she said rapidly. "It's OK for children to play video games where they are killing each other, and it's patriotic to murder people in a war. But women's breasts in public? You better watch out!"

Jennifer Moss might have another view if she had young children out for a walk and they came upon a different, semi-nude activist.
Moss is quick to say that her scant covering remains within the law. She says she always wears pasties and a G-string (made of hemp). She contends that the tickets and arrests are a violation of her constitutional rights.

"They are charging me with putting on an illegal performance or show," she said of her latest legal entanglement. "I stripped my clothes to speak the truth, but I was legally covered."

Moss also apparently has little concern for the wishes of church-goers. Many may not appreciate her "performance outside their church.
Moss may face a misdemeanor charge for taking off her clothes, down to pasties and G-string, outside the city's Catholic church on Easter Sunday, as parishioners were leaving morning Mass.

"She took that opportunity to make her statement, and she appeared nude to most people," said Ojai Police Chief Bruce Norris. "We got several calls."

Moss now says that going to the church was "poor judgment on my behalf."
She chose Easter Mass, she said, because "there are so many bad people who are hurting and destroying the Earth, and many of them are religious people."

Moss recycles an old, worn argument: churches are filled with sinners.

The point might be made that sinners are in church in an attempt to fix whatever it is in their lives that they feel may need fixed. Say, if one is an exhibitionist, for example.

Regardless of Jennifer Moss's attire, her attitude is at one with those who profess to work for the good of the environment.

She doesn't have much clothing, but she's got plenty of self-righteous, condescending attitude.

And a fine sense of the "end justifies the means".

Man Locks Daughter in Dungeon for 24 Years

This real life story is creepy, kind of like an episode of the X-Files without the blood and gore but creepy nonetheless.

A man in Austria was caught by the police and charged with locking his daughter in a dungeon underneath the house for 24 years. Yet this was just the tip of a horrific iceberg, as it was revealed that the woman was repeatedly raped by her father producing seven children.

The man, Josef, whose last name has not been revealed, was arrested by Austrian authorities in the town of Amstetten. He is charged with luring his daughter into a windowless basement or dungeon he had constructed underneath his home when she was 18. Elizabeth last saw daylight and freedom in 1984.

According to the Guardian, Josef's wife and Elisabeth's mother was unaware that their daughter was imprisoned down in the basement for 24 years. Apparently he had constructed a secret room of which the entrance was also hidden behind a secret door and accessible by code which allegedly only Josef knew. Josef had Elisabeth write a letter when she disappeared at 18, telling her family that she wished to be left alone, that they "should not search for her".

Elizabeth's Children

Elizabeth had seven children by her father. Incredibly three of the children were allowed to live upstairs after they were purportedly "left" at the home with accompanying paperwork stating that Elisabeth was the mother. Her father and mother raised them as foster or adopted children.

Royal Caribbean Cruise From Hell

Or We'll Leave You Behind!

Royal Caribbean cruise lines urges potential customers to "Start Planning Your Adventure. Book Online Today!"

But, for one family in Orange County, FL, the promised adventure turned into the "Cruise from Hell".
The family told Eyewitness News on Friday that the cruise line kicked them off the ship late at night and abandoned them in the Bahamas when their 7-month-old child became sick. They think they were kicked off the ship because her symptoms were similar to the Norwalk virus.

The family booked five tickets and was supposed to be gone for five nights when their trip was cut short. They had to spend thousands to get home.

The Cortes family actually said that their Royal Caribbean cruise was "a living hell." After boarding in Miami on Monday, they enjoyed the splendor of a RC cruise--until they were kicked off the boat Tuesday evening in Nassau.
"Everyone was crying and pleading that they wouldn't throw us of the boat, begging them if we could stay," Luis Cortes said.

Their 7-month-old child, Zoie, was throwing up and had diarrhea. A doctor on the ship said she was dehydrated and had to be treated in a hospital. The family said a security guard gave them 10 minutes to pack their bags and get off the boat. It was 11 o'clock at night.

On their website, Royal Caribbean promises "All cruises are not alike." Luis Cortes would certainly agree with that blurb. Their cruise ship wouldn't even let them get out of their pajamas before being booted.

"I asked if my wife could get out of their pajamas and there was no time for that. We had to leave," Luis Cortes said.

A doctor in a Nassau emergency room made the diagnosis.

Zoie had a common cold, not dehydration. The doctor cleared her to travel and signed a form stating that.

However, the Royal Caribbean ship had already cruised away, leaving the Cortes family stuck in the Bahamas with no passports and only memories of their Royal Caribbean cruise holiday.
"We had to find our way to the U.S. Embassy. All of this on foot. A family of five in this town we knew nothing about," Cortes said.

The embassy issued them emergency passports for $455. They spent another $650 on plane tickets back to Florida. The emergency room bill was $600. All together, the Cortes family spent more than $3,000 on their disastrous vacation and they want a refund.

"I don't want this to happen to another family," Cortes said.

Royal Caribbean said they will give the family a credit to use on another Royal Caribbean cruise trip and will not pay for the passports or plane tickets because they didn't pay for trip insurance.

So, it would seem that if you're booking a Royal Caribbean cruise, the trip insurance is definitely a must--especially if it's a family outing.

No word on when the Cortes family planned to use their credit.

To be twenty-one again.

One can finally legally partake of alcoholic beverages and serve your country.

Many do both.

But, in some locales, being twenty-one-years-old makes one too old to attend a prom. Such is the story of Jessica Pope and Francisco Velasco. Velasco is stationed at Ft. Lee, Va. and is too old to attend the prom at Jessica's high school.
Even though 18-year-old Jessica Pope of Glendale Heights spent $125 on her prom dress and her Marine boyfriend got leave to be her date, they won't be attending the prom at Glenbard East High School.

School officials have informed Pope that since Francisco Velasco, is 21, he is too old to attend the function Saturday night. Principal Robert McBride says the main reason is that 21 is the legal age for alcohol consumption.

Velasco, who is stationed at Fort Lee, Va. received permission from his superiors to fly to Chicago for the weekend just for the dance, but since he can't attend, Pope has decided to skip the function.

Consolation prize: the school district has refunded the cost of Jessica's prom tickets and says it will reimburse her for her dress.

Support the troops.

Except on Prom Night in Glendale Hgts, IL.

[NOTE: The original story referred to Robert Velasco as a Marine; however, it's the Army that is at Ft. Lee, Virginia.]
