Jimmy Carter's Magical Misery Tour: Gaza, the EU and the USA

Beep! Beep! Come on, Jimmy! Time to go!

Jimmy Carter continues his brave but losing battle against diarrhea of the mouth.

Carter, ex-president, continued his nearly 3-decades-long "Crusade to Be Relevant" by calling for the European Union to break with the U.S. over Jimmy's Kids, the Palestinians.

Britain and other European governments should break from the US over the international embargo on Gaza, former US president Jimmy Carter told the Guardian yesterday. Carter, visiting the Welsh border town of Hay for the Guardian literary festival, described the EU's position on the Israeli-Palestinian dispute as "supine" and its failure to criticise the Israeli blockade of Gaza as "embarrassing".

Referring to the possibility of Europe breaking with the US in an interview with the Guardian, he said: "Why not? They're not our vassals. They occupy an equal position with the US."

Carter is no more relevant today than 30 years ago. To recount the blunderful Carter years would keep one busy for months--even if Jimmy suddenly went deaf, dumb and blind.

So, we turned to one of the best.

“When I go to a dictatorship, I only have to talk to one person and that’s the dictator, because he speaks for all the people.”
--Jimmy Carter, Glorious Ex-president

To which Snoop--of Political Party Poop--replied, "Jimmy Carter Yup, that’s what he said. The dictator “speaks for all the people.”

By now, Jimmy Carter knows that the only time he garners any press coverage is when he's either bashing the U.S., shilling for his paid clients, the Palestinians, or making some outrageously-dumbass statement.

By his above statements, he's gone 3-for-3.

Demonstrating an effectiveness never demonstrated in that four-year cycle of despair, gloom and slapstick known as the "Carter Years."

Minnesota HS Principal Cancels War Vets Appearance

AFRAID It Might Turn "Political"

Another f**king coward on the taxpayer dole.

This time from a Minneapolis area high school.

A national tour which featured decorated veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan had to cancel its planned appearance at Forest Lake Area High School yesterday after school principal, Steve Massey, suddenly pulled the plug on the visit.
Massey, the school principal, said the decision to cancel was prompted by concerns that the event was becoming political rather than educational and therefore was not suitable for a public school.

Massey said the school had gotten a few phone calls from parents and others, and some of those callers indicated that they may stage a protest if the event took place.

So if a public school is handing out condoms and parents protest, the school is portrayed as "courageous" for standing behind the power of the state and telling parents to, basically "shut your piehole".

But if a few non-parents call and threaten to demonstrate, pro-American events get canceled?

The principal's explaination--caving in to a few at the expense of the majority--most probably was copied from a NEA (National Education Association) press release.

Most likely titled, "What to do when your school is threatened by patriotism".
"The event was structured to be an academic classroom discussion around military service. We thought we'd provide an opportunity for kids to learn about service in the context of our history classes," Massey said. "As the day progressed, it became clear that this was becoming a political event ... which would be inappropriate in a public setting.
"We decided to cancel," Massey said. Organizers of the National Heroes Tour then scrambled to relocate the event to the American Legion building in Forest Lake. The visit, which U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Stillwater, had been scheduled to attend, is sponsored by Vets for Freedom, a national organization run by Pete Hegseth, a 1999 graduate of Forest Lake Area High School who served with the 101st Airborne in Iraq in 2005-06.

"I think it's extremely unfortunate that a school would bow to the political pressure of outside groups and not bring in a veterans organization," Hegseth said. "Are we saying that patriotism and duty and honor have no place in our public schools?" So far, the tour has visited one school, albeit a private school.

The Forest Lake HS stop involved about 150 social studies students--and was closed to the public--and the media. The last-minute change left Hegseth wondering how many people would actually show up today.

Why did the 101st Airborne vet have to assure the principal "not to advocate about the progress made in Iraq and Afghanistan"?

Want to send the principal an email letting him know what you think?

Sid Blumenthal Farewell Twofer: Last Story for Salon Is First For Clinton

Goodbye Mr. Blumenthal!

A departing Sid Blumenthal disproves the maxim, "no man can serve two masters". His last piece for old boss, Salon, "Goodbye Mr. Bush" is the same as his first for new boss, Hillary Clinton.

Reading the opening, one suspects that Sid is guilty of double-dipping.
The Republican will to power remains ferocious. It will take a dauntless Democratic leader to win back the White House and restore dignity to the Constitution.

Under crisis conditions of an extraordinary magnitude political leadership of the highest level will be required in the next presidency. The damage is broad, deep and spreading, apparent not only in international disorder and violence, the unprecedented decline of U.S. prestige, and the flouting of our security and economic interests but also in the hollowing out of the federal government's departments and agencies, and their growing incapacity to fulfill their functions, from FEMA to the Department of Justice.
Bye Sid

That Blumenthal penned the next sentence without laughing to tears is proof that he's a perfect fit for the Clinton war room.

"The patently perverse notion that weakness is strength is the basis of Bush's remaining credibility within his party."

Coming from someone present during the gutting of the U.S. miltary--Codename: the "Peace Dividend"--this is good stuff. He has the reader hooked. Salon is losing a keeper in Blumenthal.

Goodbye Mr. Blumenthal

This campaign pits two parties running on diametrically opposite ideas of the presidency and the Constitution. There has not been such a sharp divergence on the foundation of the federal system since perhaps the election of 1860.
The farewell's apex is reached in that one paragraph. All before and after are Blumethal/Clinton boilerplate.

Don't Forget to Write, Sidney

"The Democrats at key junctures have been seduced by the illusion of anti-politics to their own detriment."

With this masterpiece of self-parody, Sidney Blumenthal closes his anti-Bush piece with a warning on the pitfalls of anti-politics. He also closes out his regular columns for Salon. One door closes and another one opens.

Goodbye Mr. Blumental.

12 All-time Great Dennis Kucinich Quotes To Start Your Morning Right

The Gipper's likely reaction to the latest Kucinich pronouncement?

Who doesn't like a good Dennis Kucinish quote? Congressman and Democrat presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich's latest statement on the mental health of President Bush is just the latest in a long line of memorable quotes. We present, for your edification, a dirty dozen.

"We cannot hope to end terrorism by killing terrorists."
--On Dennis 4 President website.
"I am running for President of the United States to enable the goddess of peace to encircle within her reach all the children of this country and all the children of the world.
--Speech, Cleveland City Council (13 October 2003)
"Everyday this Administration sits on the sidelines the chance for a peaceful resolution becomes less likely. Every day this Administration sits on the sidelines more innocent civilians on all sides are dying. Every day this Administration sits on the sidelines America's already poor reputation in the world community gets worse.
The Administration seems content to sit on the sidelines as a full-blown regional war breaks out. What are they waiting for, the Apocalypse?
--On Kucinich For Congress website

"I seriously believe we have to start asking questions about his mental health."
"There's something wrong. He does not seem to understand his words have real impact."
--interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board, 10-30-07.

ON SEPTEMBER 11:
“I believe the best way to honor the memory of those who died on Sept. 11 is to tell the truth of what the administration did in the wake of Sept. 11,” Kucinich said in a statement. “The Bush administration launched a war against Iraq, conflating the true tragedy of September 11 with lies about weapons of mass destruction.”
--on Kucinich for Congress website.
ON THE PATRIOT ACT:
"The "Patriot Act" is not what American patriots have fought and died for. To allow our Bill of Rights to be nullified without judicial supervision invites tyranny. The Attorney General has been handed unfettered power to wiretap, search, jail, and invade our most sacred right to privacy. The government must not be allowed, without probable cause or warrant, to snoop on our communications, medical records, library records, and student records.
--On Kucinich for Congress website.
KUCINICH's SOURCE OF INSPIRATION:
"After I lost the [mayoral] election in Cleveland in 1979, I moved to California for a while. I actually remember walking in the area around L.A. known as MacArthur Park, and I was thinking of that song and thinking of the lyrics where they talk about 'Someone left the cake out in the rain. It took so long to make it.' And it goes on, raising the question of whether I'll ever have that recipe again."
–-Real Change.org
"Mr. Speaker, the administration, through senior Air Force officials, wants the U.S. to achieve military supremacy in outer space. Dominating all earth from outer space will have an out-of-world price tag, perhaps more than $1 trillion."
--Speech on the floor of the House of Representatives, Congressional Record (19 May 2005)
DENNIS KUCINICH, WORLD LEADER:
Furthermore, I'm also a board member of Parliamentarians for Global Action, which is one of the largest group of parliamentarians in the world, and I meet regularly with world leaders from countries throughout... around the globe.
--Real Change.org

On HILLARY and JOHN EDWARDS' ELECTION-FIXING ATTEMPTS:
"Whispering, trying to rig an election, then denying what's going on and making excuses. It all reflects a consistent lack of integrity."
--Telephone interview with CBS News
July 13, 2007
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D. OH) - 7-13-07 - speaking of Edwards' (and Hillary's) attempts to exclude candidates from the televised debates

Dennis Kucinich remarks about the open Microphones on Hillary and Silky Pony.
“Candidates, no matter how important or influential they perceive themselves to be, do not have and should not have the power to determine who is allowed to speak to the American public and who is not,” said Kucinich.

“Imperial candidates are as repugnant to the American people and to our Democracy as an imperial President.”

Kucinich Questions Bush's Mental Health?

What's wrong with this picture?

One week after the headlines talked about how Dennis Kucinich achieved a mental connection with space aliens, Kucinich talked about the President tenuous grasp on reality? Apparently, Kucinich is trying out pilot plots for a TV movie--work he can do after his constituents tire of the "Pride of Cleveland".

When the one of the highlights of the Democrat Debate is Kucinich take on mental health, made before the debates even started, you know the pickin's are slim. They were. But the Ohio Congressman was in rare form.

The 'Mistake by the Lake'--take your pick whether it refers to Kucinich or Cleveland--returned to a height of absurdity not seen since the Cuyahoga River caught fire a couple times in the 1960s. The AP has the money quote.
"I seriously believe we have to start asking questions about his mental health," Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, said in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board on Tuesday. "There's something wrong. He does not seem to understand his words have real impact."

Coming from a man who communes with messengers from Outer Space, this is some condemnation.

But Kucinich has to attract attention somehow: his poll numbers seem to be stuck in the 1-2% range. That won't win Ohio even if every ward heeler on the Democrat payroll gets every dog in Greater Cleveland to vote. Next week, expect Dennis to join a seance with gypsies to ask advice on the War in Iraq from some dead Civil War general.

Kucinich asking questions about your mental health is like Elmer Fudd questioning your hunting ability.

Bill Maher's Melting Ice Cap Costume: Help Out, Go Undercover

Salon gives space to Bill Maher to flesh out things that go bump in the night, as he twists up a little something to help take the edge off the fear.

Bill Maher scares his reader at Salon:
What's really scary this Halloween is that the same group of idea-free losers who won the last presidential election could win the next one by making us afraid of the wrong things. Which is why this year for Halloween, I'm going as something truly horrifying: a melting polar ice cap.

This week -- as every week -- all the Republican candidates talked about was who was toughest in the war on terror. While the country's most populous state literally burned. The Democrats, as usual, said nothing, because they didn't want to offend fire.

The Republicans, including the scaremonger in chief, sell themselves as protectors of our safety. But since they're all, except for McCain, armchair warriors, they're only comfortable protecting us from fears they made up. Like the way Iran is itching for a war with the United States now. Ahmadinejad is pure evil! Terror has a new name, and it's nearly unpronounceable.
Comedy, much like magic, is the art of misdirection. Giving your audience something they're not expecting is the key. After a promising headline, the rest of the piece is vintage Maher ; i.e., we've heard it all before, so it's neither surprising nor chuckle-inducing. Unless one is in the throes of an ether binge, ala Hunter Thompson.

Al Gore and his tales of melting ice caps scare Bill Maher; terrorists don't. Sounds like Bill's a perfect candidate for Kandahar. There, Maher could fight the terrorists he doesn't fear, even go undercover. Perhaps he could use his scary melting ice cap costume.

W.M.D. in Iran? U.S.A.Take Action? M.D. in N.Y.T. Writes About E.D.C.? Q.E.D. To the Max

by Mondoreb

This is getting to be too much like the synapses of a lab rat clicking. Mo Dowd needs to come up with a column idea, Evil Dick Cheney is the subject, then we respond to it. Our keyboard and Dowd's both need a Pavlovian drool shield.

The latest on Evil Dick Cheney, related as Dowd channels the spirit of Scarlett O'Hara, gazing skyward and breathlessly intoning "tomorrow is another day", in the New York Times:
RUSSERT: First you threatened to take action if Iran built a nuclear weapon. Now you’re threatening to take action if Iran knows how to build a nuclear weapon. What’s next? You threaten to take action if Ahmadinejad dresses up as a nuclear weapon for Halloween?

CHENEY: Well, the difficulty here is, each time he has rejected what he was called upon to do by the international community. I’m not sure now, no matter what he says, that anyone would believe him. He’s pretending he doesn’t have W.M.D., just like Saddam.
And then the big finish.
RUSSERT: It’s so close to the next election, Mr. Vice President, shouldn’t you just keep on the diplomatic track and let the next president make this decision?

CHENEY: You really want Rudy Giuliani playing with the nuclear button, Tim? Now, that’s insane.

The above excerpt is representative of the whole. Evil Dick Cheney and his Malicious Minions are beating on the war drums and dancing madly around a campfire somewhere in Washington. All the while, poor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is off giving nuclear alms to widows.

And in New York, Mo Dowd is thinking, "Doesn't anyone realize the danger? I must warn them! Quick Lassie! Go get Timmy!" This episode's Guest Star: Rudy Giuliani as "The Nuclear Madman"!

Nuclear Arms in Iran? The U.S. Take Action? Maureen takes on Evil Dick Cheney?

Q.E.D. to the max.
