Congressman Eric Cantor (R-VA) is organizing a protest against high gas prices.

But, unlike those economically-illiterates who normally inhabit Congress, Cantor is aiming for an achievable target: the federal taxes on a gallon of gasoline. More specifically, he wants them eliminated--at least for awhile. And he wants your help signing a petition to send to Congress.

It's no surprise that the outrageous gas prices are hurting American families and have become the single biggest obstacle to economic prosperity.  Oil priced at $120 a barrel and gas that costs $3.50 - $4.00 a gallon is killing our economy.  We feel it at every turn, be it at the pump or when we shop for groceries.  Americans need relief from the high price of gas and it's Congress' duty to act immediately to reduce the pain at the pump.  That is why I am recommending you sign a petition that will tell Congress to act now to reduce the cost of gasoline and enact some commonsense energy legislation.  You can sign the petition at http://www.GasPriceProtest.com/.

I invite you to join us in urging Congre ss and President Bush to pass legislation that will suspend the 18.4 cent federal gas tax and 24.4 cent diesel tax this summer--June 21st through September 20th, 2008. 

Rasmussen Polling Reports found that of the Americans making less than $20,000 a year, 62% favor a gas tax holiday.  Clearly those people who have the least to give to the government in taxes need our help; a gas tax holiday is one small way the government can help.  Sign here to send a message to Congress and President Bush to suspend the federal and diesel gas tax this summer.

House Democrats: Passed Largest Tax Hike in American History

Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) recently sent out an email which highlights one area where the difference between Republicans and Democrats still remains stark: raising taxes.

Congressman Cantor:

Before adjourning for recess, House Democrats passed the largest tax-hike in American history; a rate hike that will soak an average of $3,120 from every family. In an economy reeling from a slowing housing and job market, this is a burden that American families and small business owners simply cannot afford.

Let's be clear – this Democrat tax hike raises the tax burden of every American, particularly the middle-class. Their budget, which they voted to pass this week, includes the following tax assumptions:


* Raises the current "10 percent tax bracket" to 15 percent. This would increase the burden on all American taxpayers, especially the lowest income earners.
* Implements an across-the-board increase on marginal income tax rates.
* Reinstates the marriage penalty. Approximately 23 million married couples would be affected.
* Slashes the $1,000 per-child tax credit in half.
* Increases the tax on dividends, which often supplement the income of senior citizens relying on Social Security.
* Reinstates the death tax, which is considered the largest impediment to transferring family-owned businesses from one generation to the next.

Cantor apparently believes that some of the taxes may be able to be rolled back or blocked.

One Year Out: How Have the Dems Done?

It's been one year since Democrats won the 2006 elections. As Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) points out:

One year ago, when they took control of Congress, House Democrats made many promises. Most of all, Democrats promised you that they were ready to govern – over the past year it has become all too clear that they have let you down.

Take a moment to watch our latest web video, which highlights the performance of House Democrats over the past year. With an 11 percent approval rating, the lowest in recorded history, it’s no wonder that Speaker Pelosi recently remarked, "I know that Congress has low approval ratings, I don’t approve of Congress, because we haven’t done anything."

This may be the solitary instance when we've heartily agreed with Nancy Peolosi.
