Megan Meier MySpace Suicide: Lori Drew or Internet Troll? - Part II

Lori Drew or Internet Troll, Part II

The conversation still rages between the author claiming to be Lori Drew, Internet hoaxer, and readers of the blog, "Megan Had it Coming".

After posting twice as "Kristen"--the first on the weekend when most of the country was just learning of the Megan Meier story--today the poster wrote "I'm Lori Drew". This touched off a war of words with readers of the post.

The author claiming to be Drew says the main reason for revealing her identity as "Kristen" is that her daughter is having a tough time of it from the other kids at school. She says it's time for this harassment to stop.

Is the author of "Megan had it Coming" and Lori Drew one and the same person?

We don't know; we can only hazard a guess. We've given our best guesses elsewhere and they're referenced at the end of this post.

---BREAKING:
Drew's Lawyer: Drew Knew, Didn't Stop It VIDEO REPORT

One thing's for sure, the author of Megan Had it Coming is not backing off from her critics. Here's Part II. The blog author ('Lori Drew') is identified in the following as "Megan Had it Coming"

Lori, I for one believe you that this thing went out of control. I do. I don't believe for one second that you wanted, or intended, for Megan to harm herself, for what it's worth.

But if you fire a gun in a crowded theater and the bullet hits and kills someone, aren't you responsible? Even if killing someone wasn't your intention?

I have two daughters, and have--as any other mother of daughters has--encountered kids who were mean and hurt my kids' feelings. On those occasions where my girls were unable to deal with the mean kid, I forbade contact, and I spoke with the parents.

You should never, ever have set up that "Josh" account, and I suspect you know that. You knew Megan was troubled--you knew that from direct experience. So you must have known that humiliating a troubled 13-year-old girl would be tantamount to setting a match to a pre-existing fuse.

You know how hard children take things--you've seen it in your own daughter. You know how irrational kids can be. You know how important acceptance is to an adolescent, how excrutiatingly painful rejection is. You know, and knew, all of this, and you engineered a trap to do serious psychic damage to a child.

This is why you're incurring so much ire.

The decent thing to do would be to stop justifying your actions and to offer a genuine apology to Megan's family.

And yet, you still have them hold a Christmas gift for you in their garage?

I don't buy anything your saying.

After reading all of your blogs, it is clear, as someone else mentioned, that your behavior closely resembles that of a sociopath. There is a certain arrogance to your writing that completely illustrates that type of persona. You have no conscience, so it is futile to try to convince you of your wrongdoings, but Karma is a bitch, and, I believe you certainly deserve whatever backlash you receive as a result of your actions. I can only hope your husband is a more responsible parent than you, otherwise, I fear for your daughter's upbringing.

The police are your second step

How can you say that? The police can't do anything in a dispute between two 13 year olds. I would have been laughed out of the police station if I had come with the complaint, "a child is setting up a cyber bullying attack against my child."

As we all know, there weren't any laws about cyber bullying back then. What Megan did was subtle and devious, but it wasn't anything the police could act on. That's why I took this into my own hands. I had to do SOMETHING, and simply separating the kids wasn't enough. Megan was coming after my daughter ONLINE. So instead of continuously running away from this bully, we fought back. No one could have guessed it was going to end so tragically.

On those occasions where my girls were unable to deal with the mean kid, I forbade contact, and I spoke with the parents.

I DID THAT I DID THAT I DID THAT! How many times do I have to spell it out? It's here in the post, I'm stating it again, get it through your head -- I'M NOT A BAD PARENT. I did what any parent would have done. I tried to resolve it amicably, but the Meiers wouldn't have any of it, and Megan wouldn't listen. What other choice did I have??? If Megan wasn't systematically spreading hurtful things about my daughter online and causing massive grief, separating them would have been the end of it. But this is the internet age we live in. Separating the kids is NOT ENOUGH. Maybe your daughters didn't have to deal with the internet. Mine does.

The notion that "Megan Had It Coming" is loathsome. The rationalizations in this newest post are loathsome. But how can we be sure this is really Lori Drew speaking? I'd like to know . . .but, what evidence would be conclusive?

Wow.. I just saw this story online and after hearing both sides of the story and reading hateful comments from both parties I am baffled.

Megan killed herself. It's her fault, not anybody else's. People get harassed all the time and bullying is a natural human behavior, not one of you can say you have not encountered bullying throughout your childhood. If it is anybody's fault it is the fault of her parents for not keeping a close eye on their clinically depressed daughter. She had just told them about the harassment she was encountering on the internet and they let her carry on.

Of course that doesn't mean Lori isn't immature and irresponsible for messing with a 13 year old, but it was in clear defense of her own daughter and I don't even consider her actions harassment. The only harassment I saw were the comments left by Megan's peers once they got control of the account.

Sorry to quote Lori Drew the "monster" of this whole mess but seriously people, give it a rest, multiple people share blame but the most obviously goes to Megan for being the cause of her own death.

Just stop justifying.

You are a bad mother. A helicopter parent. You created this hell for yourself and your daughter and you JUST DID IT AGAIN! You put Sarah at risk because you can't just stop playing with fire.

Ashley is under psychiatric care because of your choices. How many more lives are you going to ruin? You have ruined Curt's, and Sarah's and Ashley's. Why don't you figure it out?

You know you did. You need to APOLOGIZE. You keep making it worse.

You also need to grow up. This little 'monster' was a child. Still a child. You are egocentric in your actions and deeds and are still doing it.

I hope your family is safe, because with you at the helm...you just keep steering them into danger.

I tried to find a way to gracefully back out without hurting Megan but once we found out just what Megan was up to, it got out of control too quickly. There was no way to predict that Megan would react this way.

Kids get cyber bullied all the time. They go to their rooms and cry for a day then they go to school and life gets back to normal. That's what you expect any child, even a depressed child, to do. You never expect them to kill themselves.

Do you honestly not see why you are wrong and the Meiers are right?

You killed Megan.

Not intentionally, of course. No one thinks you did it intentionally. You act as if the media giants are painting you as a killer--no, they are painting you as someone who would stoop to the level of a 13-year-old to combat one. You, a grown adult, would use the same bullying tactics that a middle-schooler would use.

Which, as you admit, is entirely true.

But unintentional homicide is still manslaughter, Mrs. Drews. No, forget the title. As you have been acting like a teenager, I will address you as one--Lori.

GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEAD, LORI. YOU DID NOT DO WHAT A REASONABLE PARENT WOULD HAVE DONE. YOU ARE WHAT YOU ACCUSE THE MEIERS TO BE--UNBALANCED. YOU RESORTED TO THE SAME EXACT TECHNIQUES AS MEGAN--YOU, A GROWN ADULT, WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER.

If you were a reasonable adult and parent, Megan Meiers would still be alive today.

You are the unbalanced one, Lori, and the one who deserves to be locked up.

Lori, have you ever heard of "turn the other cheek" and "take the high road"? Do you have any Christianity in your life at all?! If not, I strongly urge you to find God. No one is taking your side on this because no one would do what you did, what you condone. Face it, you're wrong. Plain and simple. Wrong.

Your actions were childish and immature. Your daughter has to learn to fight her own battles, the right way, not your way. You've shown a remarkable lack of sound moral judgment. I pray that your daughter sees the wrong in all this and never does anything like this again.

I believe you owe the Meier family a heartfelt apology.

It's not fair to put that on me. I didn't know Megan would kill herself. No one suspected Megan would kill herself. If you blame me then you have to blame Megan's parents, too. They were closer to Megan. THEY WERE HER PARENTS. And she still managed to kill herself. What does that say? Does it say they're bad parents, too? No. It says that no one could have predicted Megan's suicide. Not Tina, not Ron, not me.

This is a horrible tragedy. But I'm no murderer.

The comments keep coming, the author keeps fighting a rearguard action.

Some have already dismissed this as the work of an Internet troll. If it is, it's a very elaborate troll, one who timed his posts to cleverly coincide with when Lori Drew might have felt the need to speak.

DBKP took screen shots of both the blog posts and the comments from the very beginning. From the moment the blog appeared, we've monitored it and its readers. We've also made a few attempts at discerning the identity of the author.

If the author really is Lori Drew, wouldn't a better forum have been to contact us, or another blogger/press outlet to tell her story?

That fact argues against the blogger being Lori Drew.

However, little in this story of hoax and re-hoax have made good sense to the disinterested reader.

Is this Lori Drew?

We've made attempts to reach Ms. Drew. We're still trying. In the meantime, we'll present this online debate.

And as always, we'll let you read and make up your own minds.

Americans,

So, as you already know, we are a country at war. There are thousands of men and women who are over there putting themselves in life threatening situations every single day. And it's all for you!

They do these things out of shear pride and love for their country! They don't ever ask for anything in return, and that is exactly what many of them recieve.

Nothing.

Not even a single letter! There are four thousand Men and Women listed on Anysoldier.com who get nothing during mail call.! I don't know about all of you, but that doesn't seem right to me.

We go about our lives free and able to do what we please. We can worship whatever God we choose to believe in, we can to college, we can feel safe in our homes every night, we can even burn our countries flag and NOT be punished for it. That is how much freedom we have as Americans.

It is because of our service men who risk their lives that we live in such a wonderful place. Four thousand (think of how many people that really is) of those service men and women feel alone and forgotten. Is that fair?

You won't ever hear a complaint though, they are silent heros.

If you would like to help make a change, please do. It's very easy to write a simple letter about yourself, your life, your job and send it to someone who is risking their life for you.

Megan Meier MySpace Suicide: Conversation Between Fake Lori Drew & Internet Commenters, Part I

Lori Drew or Internet Troll?

Are we seeing a conversation between Lori Drew, Internet hoaxer, and hundreds of Internet surfers?

Or is this another hoax?

In either case, the reading is riveting. On one side is the author of the 'Megan Had Coming' Blog, which appeared on the weekend the Megan Meier story broke across the country.

Originally, the author identified herself as "Kristen", supposedly an acquaintance of Megan Meier, before the 13-year-old committed suicide in 2006. The author then posted, what she claimed, was a "true picture of Megan".

---BREAKING: 12-4-07 2:00 pm EST
Drew's Lawyer: Drew Knew, Didn't Stop It VIDEO REPORT

NOW the same blog, after largely being inactive, has another post. This one is titled "I'm Lori Drew". It purports to be from the hoax-instigating mother, Lori Drew.

Is it?

Is "Kristen" really Lori Drew?

In our earlier story, "Lori Drew, Author of 'Megan Had it Coming' blog? , we reported on the "I'm Lori Drew" post.

There are now over 800 comments to that post at Megan Had it Coming, as well as a running verbal battle between the post's author and Internet commenters.

Once again, is this Lori Drew?

We can't know if it really is or if it's the elaborate work of a "troll", claiming to be Ms. Drew.

The timing of the posts argue against a troll. If it had been someone seeking attention, rather than justification for their actions, the stories would have been posted before this--at the height of press attention and the reactionary outrage.

We present the first in a running commentary between the author claiming to be Lori Drew and her readers.

Wrong is wrong, whether or not it's technically legal. You victimized a person a quarter of your age and you feel not one iota of remorse. just relief that you won't be charged and resentment that the rest of the world won't just let it go.

You are one sick, twisted woman. Don't cry victim when you have a blog called "magen had it coming". Give me a break. You brought all of this on yourself by misleading someone who by your own admission had "issues" but you continued to do it anyway. You, your daughter, your tdmp worker all deserve whatever hard times come upon. My only regret is that your husband, if he knew nothing about it, will be guilty by association. In fact maybe he may think about divorcing you, since you yourself seem to have the same dark side that Megan had.

If you had been 15 when you did all this, I would have understood. I would have had the reaction I think you intended when you wrote this.

But you were not 15. You were giving a 13-year-old girl a "taste of her own medicine." Which means you, a grown woman who is supposed to help her own 13-year-old grow up, thought it was perfectly acceptable to act like a 13-year-old herself.

I think you believe that people care what Megan did, how innocent she was or was not. I don't. I think most people think there is nothing a 13-year-old girl could do that warrants a grown adult initiating a set of events intended to harass and bully her.

Your explanation is the equivalent of "a ten-year-old bully beat up my eleven-year-old on the playground, so my 35-year-old husband beat the crap out of that ten-year-old." Because you knew that Megan suffered from depression. You knew that emotionally, she was weaker than you and weaker than your daughter. Yet you chose to take advantage of that weakness, and justify that by saying "she started it."

I think you need help. Your explanation is far worse than I had anticipated. I had reserved judgment believing that perhaps you had nothing to do with the bullying. Perhaps you already felt guilt and remorse. What you wrote here is far, far worse than I could have imagined.

and by the way, people do not have to be unbalanced to destroy a foosball table that belongs to a GROWN ADULT who bullied their daughter. Unbalanced, they would have done far worse. I think they showed amazing restraint.

Ok, this is the real problem. kids at that age are cruel, we all went through it, we've all seen it, we've all experienced it. You are an adult with a developed mind and the ability to understand where your actions may lead. Most 13 year olds can't think past next week let alone understand the real pain they inflict, but you can. Also to pretend to be someone else and say she "had it coming"....my god what even justifies that? Does any child deserve to be ridiculed or slandered against? No, but it happens and thats life in the awkward teenage years. Its about communication with your kids about even though what other kids say and how hurtful things are, none of it really matters. Although most teenagers think this is a line of shit, which seems like it can be at times. But on the flip side no adult or parent should ever attack any child mentally, which is what you did. You may not have typed the key strokes, but you were the mastermind behind them. Aside from the fact she was clinically depressed, something you knew. You're extremely lucky no charges will be brought, but whats worse, prison or the stigma of having the blood of a child on your hands? Guess only you will know that for the rest of your life. All the verbal attacks and actions by the community you brought on upon yourself, you made your bed and now you must lie in it. Nothing you can say will EVER sway the fact that you started a my-space page to enter into communications with a child with the sole purpose to trick her. Its to bad someone had to die, what if it was your little girl hanging in her closest...what would you do then?

December 3, 2007 10:44 AM

If you feel badly about what happened, about the fact that a young girl took her life, that two parents lost a daughter, why would you name your blog "Megan had it coming" that sounds to me like you wanted it to happen and that you don't feel regretful that it went the way it did. If you knew the girl was unstable why would you destroy her self esteem further? You seem happy and smug about the whole situation... not like someone who made a mistake and took it too far. You should be ashamed of yourself and your children should be taken away from you so they can have someone that will teach them to live a good life instead of one of revenge and spite.

December 3, 2007 10:44 AM

Bob said...
So let's get this straight. You're a mature, reasonably intelligent, presumably educated adult. You knew Megan was a mentally unstable adolescent who often displayed extreme unreasonable reactions. And you deliberately concocted a scenario that would result in this girl's public humiliation. You may not be technically guilty of murder, and Internet harassment may not be illegal in Missouri. But you certainly are guilty of intentional depraved indifference. You may not have wanted Megan to kill herself, but you clearly wanted to cause her harm. Your actions were clearly a cause that had the effect of Megan's suicide, however much you may wish to deny it. I hope no violence comes against you. However, I believe your fate will be to lose your business and your husband's, and you will be a pariah for years. And I think you deserve that fate.

December 3, 2007 10:45 AM

You have it coming said...
To state you had no direct role in Megan's suicide proves you are a sociopath. You actions of creating the Myspace account, allowing other the ability to post message from it, directly lead to Megan taking her own life.

You also seriously need parenting classes. No reasonable parent would try to dupe a 13 year old girl with the help of her daughter and a temp worker by pretending to be a 13 year old boy. Then bring others into the scam once it was exposed so they could also try to enact mob bullying. You are reaping what you have sewn.

Considering that after the suicide you tried to bury it all, deleting the Myspace account, telling people to keep quite, etc... would indicate a criminal conspiracy had certain circumstances been different.

No "reasonable" parents would set out to give a 13 year old girl a taste of her own medicine. Nor would a "reasonable" parent set up a blog entitled "meganhaditcoming". It's disturbing that you would ever have the lack of judgment to go through with this harassment in the first place. Perhaps it's even more disturbing that you have set about trying to justify your actions. You place the blame on Megan's mental state, but that just makes it even more horrifying that you would treat a mentally unstable child in such a cruel way. I have my doubts over the legitimacy of this blog, but if any of this is actually written by Lori Drew, I am deeply disturbed by your lack of remorse and hope that somehow justice is served.

Is this Lori Drew?

Surely no one could be this callow and petty.

But then, surely no one would set up an account on MySpace for the purpose of the online harassment of a 13-year-old neighbor girl she'd known was suffering from depression.

Surely, no one would file destruction of property charges against the suffering parents of the victim, upon learning of their reactionary destroying of a foosball table.

Surely.

Everyone will have their own opinion. One opinion here: it's probably Drew, if the reports of "no remorse", by neighbors who knew Drew longer and observed during the last year, are to be believed.

Maybe her advertising business is suffering from a loss of revenue and she now feels it's time to answer some of her critics.

This is Part I. More to follow.

This photo was from today's Iran Daily. Two guys, walking hand and hand. One of them, the President of Iran, Ahmahdinejad, the other, King Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia. [1]

A difference of cultures, a different way of life. If this had been President Bush and France's President Sarkozy...

Iran Tells Canadian Ambassador To Take A Hike

A tale of countries, two embassies, and no Ambassadors. The Iranians ordered the Canadian Ambassador to pack his bags and catch the red-eye back home. Even though Iran has expelled the Canadian ambassador the Canadian Embassy will remain open, run by the charge d'affair.
OTTAWA – Canada's ambassador to Iran has been ordered to leave the country, Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Bernier said in a statement late Monday.

Bernier says the decision is entirely unjustifiable.

The statement says Ottawa will continue to monitor the well-being of the other embassy staff in Tehran. [1]

Canada has refused to "accept" the candidates that Iran has proposed.

What was missing from the Star article was the reason behind the "cold shoulder" given to Iran from Canada. From the BBC:
Relations between the two countries have been strained since a Canadian-Iranian journalist died in police custody in Iran in 2003.

In November, the UN passed a Canadian-sponsored resolution condemning Iran's "systematic violations of human rights". [2]
No word yet from Iran as to why they chose to expel the Canadian Ambassador. At this juncture it's become an 'Ambasssadorial Impasse.'

Phone Booths: Fading Relics Of The Past

A small story in today's news from Reuters tells of the demise of the phone booth.

Top U.S. phone company AT&T Inc said on Monday it plans to end its dwindling pay phone business by the end of 2008, as more consumers use mobile phones.

The move affects AT&T pay phones in the company's previous 13-state service area, including California and Texas. BellSouth Corp, which AT&T acquired late last year, has already exited the pay phone business in its nine-state [1]
An end of an era. No place to place a private call. No escape from the elements.

An ode to Phone Booths:

MySpace Suicide: Lori Drew, Author Of "Megan Had It Coming" Blog?

Monday, December 3, 2007

I'm Lori Drew

It's time I dropped the charade. Yes, I made this blog. Yes, I'm Lori Drew. [1]

(A very chilling note posted today on the "Megan Had It Coming" Blog. Read the rest of the post below, the author claims to be Lori Drew, the woman at the center of the Megan Meier story)

Drew's Lawyer: Drew Knew, Didn't Stop It VIDEO REPORT

My daughter had nothing to do with this. Everyone needs to leave her alone. None of you can possibly know her involvement, and none of you can possibly know what she's gone through. She's just a kid. She doesn't deserve these brutal verbal attacks. Please stop.

Now that Mr. Banas has made public the announcement that there will be no charges filed against me or my family, I feel it is time to speak out about this tragic affair. I cannot count on any media organization to fairly represent my story, as they have grossly misrepresented and sensationalized the story so far. So, I must present my case here, on the blog that has been my only outlet.

You don't understand what the last two years have been like, living in this town, dealing with these people. When we came here, the Meiers seemed like a great family with whom we could form a friendship. Tina sold us our house and our little girls became fast friends. It was typical. Sleepovers and vacations and events in the community. The girls were inseparable.

We knew Megan and we liked having her around, at first. But as the months went on, we saw a change in our daughter. She was increasingly disturbed and defensive. We thought the effects of puberty were taking hold. But, we soon realized the negative influence was Megan. Megan had her bright and perky side, but she also had her dark side. We knew that she suffered from depression, so we tried to be supportive and patient. We talked to Ron and Tina about our concerns, but they would have none of it. Their precious Megan couldn't be the problem -- and they said we should feel bad for even suggesting it of a poor, mentally ill child.

It only got worse from there. Megan found out that we had gone to her parents and she worked to drive a wedge between our daughter and us. We fought back the only way we knew how: we supported our daughter and explained to her what we thought. She agreed with us, and that's when the fallout started.

When Sarah stopped going along with Megan's antics, Megan took it especially hard and lashed out. She called my daughter every nasty name in the book, swore to never be friends again and stormed out. Then a few days later they were friends again, Megan would try to manipulate Sarah, Sarah wouldn't buy it, and Megan would become furious again. Then came the MySpace attack. Not the one you're reading about in the news, but the one that started this whole thing.

After the final break-up in their frienship, Megan coordinated a MySpace attack on my daughter. Since she didn't have access to MySpace herself, she had to work through friends. I wasn't too surprised because I knew that Megan was grounded from MySpace the previous year after she made a fake profile with a friend to go prank and bully a classmate they didn't like.

Fortunately, that prank didn't go far, and neither did her latest attempted prank on my daughter. But the damage was done to my child, and I knew what kind of child Megan was, depression or not.

Now I had nothing but sympathy for Megan's condition. But my sympathy has limits. When you come after my daughter and try to hurt her like that, my patience wears out. This troubled child was no longer able to poison my baby in person, so she decided to reach out on the Internet to do it instead. Like any parent, when you see the ill-behaved child next door causing trouble for your family, you want to wring the neck of the parents who let it happen. But, as Megan's parents made it clear earlier, they were not about to come down on their precious Megan. I had no recourse with them. And, forbidding the children from seeing each other was not effective because Megan could simply harass my daughter online.

Then, my daughter heard that Megan was lobbying her parents to get her MySpace back. I was instantly terrified. That little monster was a tremendous poison for my daughter as-is. I didn't want to think about what kind of damage she would do if she had total access to the internet. I talked the situation over with people I knew and trusted, who told me to be very afraid. Teenage bullying was rampant on MySpace, and there were very few, if any, legal options for people being harassed. Everyone's advice was: if you're harassed, your only option is to delete your profile and run. It won't stop people from saying bad things about you, but at least you won't have to see it.

I wanted to hide my daughter away from all of this, and delete her MySpace, but she begged and pleaded with me to let her stay. I know it's MySpace and it's a social hub for teens today and I didn't want my daughter to be the only one without, so I relented.

Instead, I worked with a couple of people I knew to create a profile so I could keep tabs on Megan. They helped me add pictures and graphics and music so it would look like a boy that Megan would want to talk to. We didn't totally know what we were doing with the Josh Evans persona, or where it would lead, so I kept it quiet. We did our best to shmooze Megan into opening up. I complimented her pictures and said how great she was. I very gently asked her about her school life and her friends hoping that if she was planning any attack on my daughter that we would be one step ahead of her and could take this evidence to her parents, show them what their daughter is up to so they would finally take action.

A couple of weeks went by and Megan was buying it. We were surprised at how she could be so nice to "Josh" and still have an undercurrent of negativity when she talked about school friends. We wanted to make sure she wasn't going to try anything to get back at Sarah, so we kept the account going. When Megan started talking about being in love and wanting to do boyfriend/girlfriend stuff with "Josh" I got concerned. How do we keep going for information AND figure out a way to let her down gently once we were convinced nothing was going to happen? What if we let her down, and she regressed and came after my daughter anyway? I was becoming very confused and concerned then. Megan was unpredictable and I absolutely did NOT want her harassing my child. I didn't know what to do, so I kept going. I played down her innuendo. Anytime she became explicit, "Josh" backed off and kept the compliments above board.

Then I found out that Megan's parents were actively monitoring the account! Everything that had been going on, they were witness to. This troubled me deeply: were they not concerned when their 13 year old daughter wanted to have heavy duty make out sessions with a 16 year old boy? Hello!

I had "Josh" friend other people that Megan knew all the while so that if anyone else knew of anything that was going to happen, we'd have that much more chance of staying ahead of the game. One of the girls we friended even figured out that the profile was fake. We let her in on it, and asked what she wanted. Turns out, she wasn't friendly with Megan, either, so she wanted to help. I gave her access to the account.

It wasn't long after that that we saw what was being said on other accounts: Megan was still mad at Sarah and was very quiety spreading cruel rumors. She kept it off her own MySpace because she knew that kind of stuff would get her grounded off it again. I was furious! Not only was Megan obviously not going to stop until she had her revenge, but now there was no way to get any evidence about it.

That's when I decided I would have to teach Megan a lesson and give her a taste of her own medicine.

I decided that I would shut down the Josh account, and not be nice about it. Megan's feelings be damned, and to hell with her consequence! I was going to protect my daughter no matter what. So I sent the break up e-mail to Megan saying that Josh didn't want to be friends because Megan was very cruel to her friends. Naturally, Megan freaked, and I tried to keep the messages short and sweet. As a last resort bargaining chip, I figured that if she really loved Josh then maybe he could pressure her into stopping her lies. But it didn't work, and the situation devolved lightning fast.

Megan was screaming at Josh for answers on who he had been talking to: she wanted to know who ratted her out so she could take out revenge on them, too. I shared Megan's messages with everyone involved and encouraged everyone to stand up against her and not take her crap anymore.

Instead, once the word got out about Megan, so did all her romantic replies, as well as a few secrets and the MySpace crowd ganged up on her.But I didn't realize that this group would react that way. I expected a certain amount of bullying, and I was OK with it. I wanted Megan to get a taste of what she had been dishing out this whole time. But I didn't want it to go as far as it did. It's true that the slut and fat references came out of what I shared. And by the time I was done with work on that day, the bullying against Megan had progressed pretty far. I had heard about the "better off without you" message and that's when I told everyone to cool it. Megan had been punished enough, and I was satisfied that she would think twice before bullying or manipulating anyone again.

That night I saw the ambulance lights at the Meier house, and then I saw them take Megan out on a stretcher. I was stunned and horrified. I wasn't sure what had happened, and when they had said Megan tried to kill herself, I didn't believe it. Yes, Megan suffered from depression, but she was always laughing and smiling when we were on vacations, or at sleep overs. After the shock wore off, I panicked: what if Megan ended her life after what happened on MySpace? It seemed ridiculous. When kids were bullied, they went to their rooms and cried -- even the depressed ones. They didn't hang themselves.

I was distraught over the event, so I instructed the key people involved to stay quiet to protect themselves against any counter-bullying, and I deleted the Josh profile. I kept the truth from the Meier family because there was simply no reason to come forward. Their little girl died the next day at the hospital. Their lives were destroyed. What good would it do to inform them that their daughter's MySpace boyfriend was a fake? They wouldn't believe that their daughter was a MySpace bully and a real life manipulator when she was alive, so why add to their grief now? I stayed quiet. I went to the funeral to pay my respects to this troubled child who took herself to a tragic end. We mourned the loss of a girl who once was a good friend. We all tried to get on with our lives.

Little by little rumors of the cause of Megan's suicide spread. Of course the Josh break-up was mentioned, as was the MySpace bullying. People talked about the need to stop MySpace bullying. There were a couple of news reports, but it never went anywhere.

Until six weeks later when one of the girls involved decided to link me to the issue. When Megan's parents found out that the Josh account was me, they focused all of their rage and pain and guilt at me. Instantly, what had been a mysterious suicide with no definite answers became a personal vendetta.

Just like Megan, her parents showed their dark side and scared the holy hell out of me when they dumped our smashed foosball table on our driveway. Instantly I knew we were dealing with unbalanced people. Aggravated by their child's death and their own culture of anxiety, I very much feared for my family. I made sure to report the incident to the police so the Meiers would know that we would stand up for ourselves and that the police were watching, should they choose to do something rash.

A little bit after that, I decided to try to diffuse the situation and confront the parents. I would lay out everything I knew, all the intent, and everything I thought. If they didn't want to accept the truth about their daughter, then there was nothing else I could do. But I would at least try. Unfortunately, Tina & Ron would have none of it. They wouldn't talk to us, they wouldn't deal with us. Ron pretty much came unglued when we made one last attempt. They had nothing but raw hatred for us, and they wouldn't listen. That's when I realized it was hopeless.

The police investigation was especially frightening. We cooperated as best we could. I provided my statement, but I was not satisfied with the officer who took it. He got most of the details wrong, and he left out intricacies that I've explained here. When I tried to get the report corrected, an officer at the desk said she was familiar with our case, and flat out refused to allow us to amend our statement. That was the beginning of the backlash. That it came from a police officer truly shook us.

The investigators asked both us and the Meiers to remain quiet about the issue while they conducted their work. They warned us of small town mob violence and undue media attention. We agreed and went on with our lives. We heard almost nothing for nearly nine months. Our lives seemed to be getting back to normal, despite the family down the street that still grieved visibly and had devolved into fights and separation. I truly felt bad for them. They lost their baby, and now they were tearing themselves apart because the pain wasn't getting any better. I made sure to kiss and hug my Sarah every night and tell her how much I loved her. We actually grew closer from it.

Then the investigation was over. No charges would be filed. We were relieved. It felt like a weight had finally been lifted from us. But not so for Tina & Ron. They had focused their rage on us and blamed us for everything. I could understand their pain and their guilt, but I had had enough of their accusations. One day I did snap and told Tina to "give it a rest." Looking back, it was insensitive to say. But, you have to understand that for months we had been dealing with a family that didn't want to listen to our side of the story and only called for us to "be gone." Like I said, my sympathy has limits.

After the investigation, Tina made it clear she wasn't going to let this go. We weren't sure what to expect, but we had grown to be dismissive of her and her incoherent ranting. Then came the newspaper article, which instantly painted us as hoaxers who were out to make Megan kill herself.

You see, this is why I now have an extreme distrust for any media: they paint the story in whatever way gets the most readers. Everyone from Pokin to Andersoon Cooper has painted this story as if we set out to destroy Megan, as if her suicide was a foregone conclusion of our actions. But it's not. We didn't know Megan was going to do what she did. If we knew it was going to end like that, I wouldn't have started this whole thing. I had no intention for Megan to be so drastic. I wanted her to learn a lesson so she could be a better person. I didn't want her to die.

Then Sarah Wells outed me. Then the hate and harassment and threats poured in. Even against my daughter. First there were dozens of calls, then hundreds, then there was national news, and everyone went crazy.

That's why I started this blog and posted as "Kirsten." I was so angry at the world for being so unfair, especially when it came to my daughter whom I had sworn to protect from all of this. I took a low blow at Megan's memory because I desperately wanted the world to at least get a glimpse of the truth.

But that's all over now. The final word from authorities has come down that there will be no charges, so I don't have to remain silent. There's no point in hiding anymore. The internet has made it clear that mob revenge must prevail, even if there's no justice in it. So be it.

Here I am, internet. Come get me.

If this is true, that Lori Drew is/was "Kristen" and this post is from Lori, the mother of one of Megan's ex-friends. Then this is quite sickening.

Here is "Kristen's/Lori Drew's" first post on "Megan Had It Coming."

Set the record straight

I want to set the record straight about Megan Meier. I'm calling myself Kristen because if i don't want to give out my real name.

Megan and I were sort of friends. I always saw her at school and sometimes on myspace when her mom would let her on. I need to talk about what she was like because everyone has this picture of this innocent girl who had this horrible thing done to her. That's sorta true but not totally.

Megan was a total drama queen. Yeah i know it was depression or whatev but it was hard to be her friend for very long because she would always lose it and turn into a psycho. That's why Lori Drew's daughter stopped being friends with Megan. Let's call her laura. Every other day Megan would have some crisis and you could see her freaking out down the hall or screaming at someone for stabbing her in the back or not listening to her or whatever then she would go cry to Laura unless it was her pissing her off. You couldn't say anything to megan without her taking it the wrong way.

Yeah she was kinda fat. But she made it seem like everyone was out to harpoon her or whatev. I saw her out with her mom one day at tri sports and she was being a total basket case complaining how all the sports gear made her look fat. You could tell that her mom had been putting up with her daughter for a looooooong time and kinda tuned her out. I would, too.

Oh one other thing about Megan is that she was soooooo shallow. She totally threw herself at any boy who would give her the time of day and then totally lose him for stupid reasons. She was hot for this one boy in our math class and she was trying to be a flirt but she was being totally slutty at him until sara this other girl she talked to said she didn't think he was very hot and boom! suddenly megan wasn't intrested in him anymore and called him a loser in front of everyone. It was that kind of stuff that made people not like Megan. Megan could be really mean and hurtful.

Oh and if you ever disagreed with her or didn't go in with whatever she was talking about she totally pulled this poor me thing and got all defensive. she was a total psycho and everyone knew it. And she knew that everyone knew it and she went even more crazy! Like when she talked about liking Usher and someone else called her a getto bitch and she screamed at the top of her lungs NO IM NOT!!!!! You couldn't help but laugh at her because she was soooooo nuts!!!

So yeah it's to bad Megan killed herself but it's not suprising. I mean if she didn't have enough to eat at dinner that could have set her off and made her kill herself. And killing yourself over a myspace boy? come on!!! I mean yeah your fat so you have to take what you can get but still nobody should kill themselves over it. Oh wait unless your Megan the psycho who goes crazy over every little thing and acts like it's the end of the world. Think about it Megan was "drove" to suicide because from her perspective a boy she liked suddenly asked her about her school reputation and said he wasn't into it? How crazy do you have to be?

Oh and I don't think Lori Drew is so evil as everyone says. Megan was a total bitch to everyone around her especially Laura so if I was her mom I would be mad at Megan too and I would check up on her to see what shit she was spreading about my daughter. And Megan totally talked shit about everyone, including Laura. After she told Laura off, she went around to all her friends to get everyone on her side as if it was this huge divorce or somethingcalling Laura a slut and a bitch so whatev. So yeah Laura's mom checked up on Megan to see what was up and give her a taste of her own medicine. And it's not like Laura's mom did this whole campaign like you see on the news. She was pretending to be this nice guy for six weeks and then said two mean things in one day and that was it. It's not like Megan thought some mean adult was coming after her. All she knew was that some boy who would totally make her think she's hot shit at school cuz she couldn't shut up about him she totally showed him off like a trophy so all the other girls would be jealous and then oops her awesome boy toy was fake!! She was like totally busted on that one. And she had it coming with all the shit she did.

So nobody in the news talks about what Megan the bitch was like so now you know. Oh and don't bother trying to figure out who I am. Unlike Megan, I DO have a boyfriend and he knows computers and he totally covered my tracks.
Indeed. If this is Lori Drew, and she is "Kristen" the author of the "Megan Had It Coming" Blog then someone needs to address this woman's mental health.

Megan was 13-years-old. Lori Drew was supposed to be the adult. Lori Drew decided to "teach Megan a lesson." By lies, fraud, and deceit. An adult versus a 13-year-old kid.

We wondered why Lori/Kristen decided the only way the "truth" could be told was through the anonymity of an internet blog?

Wading through Lori/Kristen's missive we see no remorse, none, for Megan.

If this person posting on "Megan Had It Coming" is Lori Drew then it is fairly easy to surmise, by the actions listed in her post, that "Lori Drew" is a malignant narcissist. The horrible first post from Lori/Kirsten pretending to be a classmate of Megan's. The "poor me" sob story. The utter lack of remorse for Megan's death. The attempt to continue to paint Megan as a bad person who "needed to be taught a lesson."

We are shaking our heads here. Our sympathies go to Megan's family and absolutely none for Lori Drew/Kristen.
