Washington Post, Labor Dept. Rule Changes: When the MSM Attack

Example of Why the MSM is the NME
by Babba Zee
Outraged Spleen of Zion

Allman Brothers ~ Whipping Post

The Washington Post did a total hit piece on this woman.

She's working on a new rule to change the way the government regulates workers' exposure to toxins.

The Post, in the service of the unions and Dems, slammed her on page A1.

U.S. Rushes to Change Workplace Toxin Rules

Political appointees at the Department of Labor are moving with unusual speed to push through in the final months of the Bush administration a rule making it tougher to regulate workers' on-the-job exposure to chemicals and toxins.

The agency did not disclose the proposal, as required, in public notices of regulatory plans that it filed in December and May. Instead, Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's intention to push for the rule first surfaced on July 7, when the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) posted on its Web site that it was reviewing the proposal, identified only by its nine-word title.

You'll note the way the writer paints Misir as doing something out of the ordinary, as though she's trying to sneak through a new rule. Note also that they didn't call her for comment before publication.

The Left is about hit-and-run character assassination, and if you claim to be protecting workers, while also exposing the evils of the Bush administration, of course you're not bound by any rules.

My thinking is that it's not worth spending too much effort writing on the Post's comment board itself, because no one's going to sift through hundreds of posts to read them all.

It's better to get things like up on bigger blogs like Michelle Malkin or Free Republic.

Here are some key points to consider:.

1. Contrary to what the Post wrote, the new rule is not secret. It's a draft being reviewed by OMB, then everyone can comment on it once it's released.

2. No one knows what's in it, so the Post printed assumptions based on Deborah's previous comments about the existing process. The new rule will protect workers, but will make the process transparent, and most significantly, risk-based using science and actual facts, rather than faulty assumptions and emotion.

3. An abstract of the new rule can be found here: Requirements for DOL Agencies’ Assessment of Occupational Health Risks

4. They also smeared Deborah for previously being a White House ethics officer, insinuating that she must be a bad person because no one at the Bush White House is ethical. Every government agency has an ethics adviser to ensure compliance with ethics rules, such as accepting gifts, using government resources, speaking in front of certain groups, separating political activities from government service, etc. She was the screener who ensured compliance with ethics rules, and has never been faulted once for an incorrect ruling or advice; rather, she is ridiculed for her careful and ethical work.

The Left-wing bloggers have ripped her apart on this for the last year, even making fun of her last name (Misir is Hindu), usually writing that she was a White House "ethics adviser."

If you ever wonder why good people shy away from public service out of fear of being personally destroyed, here's another example. With her experience (she was previously an appellate lawyer for the Justice Department, arguing cases in front of Federal appellate courts), she could be in a private firm earning $300,000+/year; instead, she's in the trenches fighting for rational policies in industry, and being personally destroyed by the socialist network.

Larry Sinclair-Obama: Obama Supporters Circulating Fake WashPo Story?

Fake!
WashPo Editorial Non-Existent

We got an email this morning that claimed to contain the text from a Washington Post story on Thursday, February 21 2008 about Larry Sinclair, the gay man who's polygraph test about his claims of sharing sex and cocaine with Barack Obama in 1999 will be released this week.

Sinclair has alleged that he shared gay sex and cocaine/crack with Obama in the back of a limo and at a motor lodge in Gurnee, IL in 1999 while the presidential candidate was a Illinois representative.

The story-editorial, according to the email, was dated February 21, 2008 and was to have been on WashPo page 1a2.

Here's what the email said the story contained.
In late fall of 2007 Lawrence Sinclair approached campaign officials of the Sen.Barack Obama campaign, and told them a very disturbing story. Rob Allen of the Sen. Obama campaign stated. After the meeting had concluded the campaign officials ruled it off, as "just someone trying to make a buck."
The following week they received a phone call, from a man claiming to represent Mr. Sinclair, and demanding $100,000.00 as restitution for his client.

Lawrence Sinclair has filed a federal suit against Barack Obama and others for harassment since the gay man released his video on YouTube.com, a internet web-site for viewing homemade videos, alleging that, the Senator from Illinois and Mr.Sinclair shared oral sex and cocaine in the back of a Mr. Sinclair's limo in Gurnee, IL in 1999.

The Post has learned that presiding Judge Donald Wilson is dismissing the case, due to credibility on Mr.Sinclair. Stating that the complainant has an extensive record of mischievous conduct. Further more such allegations warrant sound credible standards, which are not found in matters included in this suit.

Lawrence Sinclair was convicted of "fraud" two times and investigated eight times over 25 years, for trying to secure money for "black male" charges. Two of the defendants were political figures in Illinois and Indiana. Mr.Sinclair also has an extensive record of drug convictions. The Washington Post has learned."

Now, the email said that this was an editorial from the Washington Post.

We found that hard to believe for a number of reasons.

1- Why would the Washington Post write an editorial about a story that the Post has steadfastly refused to utter a word about?

2- The email doesn't read like much of an editorial to us. It reads more like someone trying to write a fake news story.

3- Some of the information contained in the email matched the same information we tried running down that appeared in this week's Globe tabloid concerning Larry Sinclair's prison record. We were unable to substantiate it, as of this time.

4- Some of the email's information was completely new: that is, the charge that Sinclair was involved in "black male" charges. "Black male"? This alone caused us to relegate the email to the scam/spam collection.

5- The information that we do know is true: i.e., the charges Sinclair has alleged, comes almost word-for-word from one of our Larry Sinclair stories here at DBKP.

Now, we'd be flattered if some editorial writer lifted a few sentences from our story, but we doubt very much that most editorial staff at the Washington Post (Kevin Sullivan--who's left a comment at DBKP a few months back--being the exception.)

So, we checked the email out.

We ran searches on the Washington Posts website: no editorial concerning Larry Sinclair.

We went through every editorial published by the Washington Post in the last 2 weeks.

Nope, no such animal.

Who is circulating the email with the fake Washington Post editorial?

Is it the Obama campaign? Or, perhaps just an over-zealous Obama supporter?

We can't imagine a Clinton or McCain supporter circulating the email. The email made its way to the editor at BNN also, where DBKP Obama-Sinclair stories have been posted.

In any case, Larry Sinclair has made his allegations publicly, and has been threatened for his troubles by Obama supporters and the campaign itself--according to Sinclair.

This letter--unless the editorial has been pulled, and that raises a whole other set of questions--is more evidence that tends to support Sinclair's allegations of intimidation by Obama supporters.

The plot thickens.

[NOTE: The email presented no links or other proof that this editorial exists and we can find no proof it exists, either. If anyone has a link to this supposed Washington Post editorial, send it along and we'll post it. But we don't expect to receive a link for a non-existant editorial using the term "black male" charges.]

Mainstream Media: New Cutbacks in Jobs, Bureaus, Stock Prices, Advertising, Ratings

Cutbacks in Everything
--Except Left Wing Rhetoric

When you're Selling What No One's Buying

The big story of the Mainstream Media in the last week is cuts.

Cuts in jobs, in advertising revenue, in circulation, in ratings: in short, cuts in every meaningful indicator of how successful the Mainstream Media is.

Which is to say, they're not.

Not doing their job, not successful.

What the MSM is selling--liberal viewpoints, solutions, hand-wringing, harangues and advice--is the one area news consumers aren't buying.

Some news blurbs from the last week amplify this point.

NBC is closing their Chicago and Dallas bureaus.
NBC: Atlanta, which has managed Miami and New Orleans assignments, will add Dallas. Chicago will report in through the Northeast bureau.

The Liberal Lady, the New York Times is cutting newsroom jobs.
After years of resisting the newsroom cuts that have hit most of the industry, The New York Times will bow to growing financial strain and eliminate about 100 newsroom jobs this year, the executive editor said Thursday.

The Washington Post is closing a printing plant and offering buyouts to all employees.
Washington Post Co. will offer buyouts to employees at its flagship newspaper to cut costs as revenue and readership decline.

Buyouts will be offered to all newspaper employees. The newspaper employs 2,400 people, including 800 in news, she added. Revenue at the publishing division, which includes the newspaper, fell 8 percent to $657.2 million in the first nine months of 2007.

At the Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times, 100-150 jobs are being cut at each.
Tribune Co. employees were notified Wednesday that hundreds of jobs will be cut at the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times and other publications — the first cutbacks since billionaire Sam Zell took the media company private last year.

In separate memos, Tribune Publisher Scott Smith said 100 jobs would be cut and his counterpart at the Times, David Hiller, said 100-150 jobs would be eliminated.

Last fall, CNN dropped Reuters--but said the move wasn't about falling ratings and cutting costs.

Honest.
But in a twist, the cable news network CNN asserted that a decision to drop the Reuters news service after 27 years was not done to cut costs.

Newsweek is cutting the amount of copies it is guaranteeing advertisers by a half million.
Newsweek magazine plans to cut its guaranteed paid circulation by 500,000 copies, according to industry magazine Advertising Age.

The 16 percent reduction would lower the number of paid subscribers Newsweek promises advertisers from 3.1 million to 2.6 million, Advertising Age reported, citing people with knowledge of the move.

About a year ago, Time announced cuts in its news operations staff. It said at the time that there was no timetable as to future cuts.

As anyone who follows news closely, the nine MSM companies above are all flagship liberal operations. Whether it's big government, Blame America First, Global Warming, more taxes and regulations or endorsement of Democrat candidates and their programs, the MSM is all liberal, all the time.

In most cases, the MSM "news" shows and editorial staffs operate as a wing of the Democrat National Committee.

Don't expect the continuing MSM death spiral to change the outlook of either the reporting or the personnel responsible for the slide.

All nine of the above MSM mouthpieces staunchly maintain that they are unbiased "news" operations.

Their viewers and readers and in many cases, their stockholders, beg to differ.

And have been for some time now.

NBC denied that they were even scaling back their operations, labeling the cutbacks as streamlining in an "effort to achieve more journalism and less bureaucracy in the newsgathering operation."

They could achieve all of the above aims by simply requiring their newsrooms to drop their liberal viewpoints by hiring a few conservatives and losing the liberal herd mentality that infects their news operations.

When the National Enquirer reported on the John Edwards Love Child Scandal in November, not one--not a single, solitary, lonely--reporter from a MSM outlet asked Edwards one, single, solitary question about it.

NOT ONE ever asked the candidate if he had been in telephone contact with Rielle Hunter--the woman the Enquirer kept under tabs for months after the campaign spirited her out of sight within 5 miles of Edwards' campaign headquarters from New York--since Hunter had found out she was pregnant.

NOT ONE.

In the meantime, their viewers and readers were buying up Enquirers by the millions and Googling "Rielle Hunter" at such a pace that the woman's name became the most-searched for term on the Internet for awhile.

The news public was buying "Rielle Hunter"--and the Mainstream press wasn't selling any. They were selling anything and everything else that they were interested in, not their potential consumers.

[DBKP John Edwards Love Child Scandal Library of 25 stories on John Edwards, Rielle Hunter, the National Enquirer and the MSM news blackout on the story.]

The MSM tries to put the blame for their decline on the medium and hopes to counter it by creating blogs on the Internet. One suspects that they won't be selling anything different on their MSM blogs--and the public won't be doing any buying of their news there, either.

The Mainstream Media should borrow a page from the playbook of one of their heroes, Bill Clinton and have signs printed up:

ITMS

It's the message, stupid.

So, our advice to the Mainstream Media, as a member of the right wing blogosphere:

"Stay just the way you are, baby. Never change, we love you just the way you are!"
