Megan Had It Coming Blog: Edna Bambrick's in Town and You're Gonna Be Sorry!

Just nip it!

The vile little blog 'Megan Had It Coming' is still up and running with a new deputy in town.
Edna Bambrick said...

I HAVE CONTACTED THE FBI AND THE INTERNET POLICE ABOUT THIS BLOG! ANY THREATS AGAINST LORI DREW WILL BE REPORTED TO THE FBI AND DHS! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Who is Edna Bambrick?

This is the first we've ever heard of Ms. Edna. Perusing the "I'm Lori Drew" thread we came across Edna's posts. Edna, it seems, has become Lori Drew's guardian angel.

From Edna's Yahoo 360 Profile:

According to Edna's MySpace (We'll refrain from posting a link) Edna is an older woman who is rumored to be a troll or spammer.

I'm not going to say what I think Edna is, for I fear her methods of revenge. (Tongue in cheek)

"Sharia" Medical Center to Open In Moscow

The first ever medical center specifically built to treat Muslims in Russia according to Muslim custom or "Sharia Law" is expected to open soon in Moscow.
The centre has been organized according to cultural values of Islam, its demands and peculiarities.
The main difference from the usual clinic is that there are male doctors for male patients and female specialists for female patients. The personnel clothing meets the standards of Shariah laws: a Muslim doctor would be dressed from head to foot. Only hands are allowed to be bare, whereas women are supposed to wear hijabs. It will be allowed to prescribe only alcohol-free drugs.
There are special rooms in the new clinic for ablution and prayers (with a dividing screen for men and women). There is also a halal refreshment room, where food does not contain animal fat. Vegetable oil is used instead of butter. Food should also contain no alcohol - its consumption is forbidden by Islam. It is generally believed that Muslims pay much attention to their food, as these requirements are given by Allah whom they honour and respect.

The doctors in the Muslim clinic will have special qualifications. They will approach every patient according to Quran, the Holy Book for all Muslims. [1]
For those who are strict adherents of the Muslim faith this type of facility is needed as it lessens the stress of worrying if one is breaking one's religious vows.

According the article the doctors at the center will also be providing care to non-Muslims.

Steyn, America Alone: PC Crowd, 2 Muslims Seethe, Everyone Else Laughs

What! Did You Say "Demographic Trends"!
I'll teach you to spout demographic trends, you bigot
!

Winter weather got you down?

You say you're stressed out and need to laugh?

Then head on over to Unqualified Offerings!

When the Politically Correct attempt an argument, it's almost a guarantee that hilarity will ensue.

There's merriment immediately during Unqualified Offerings's, Sympathy for the Devil: Mark Steyn's America Alone.

The piece's author, Jim Henley, apparently defines "bigot" as anyone who points out demographic trends.

Oh.

And disagrees with Jim.

bigot: n. One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.
--Ask.com

"I knew Steyn was a bigot..."
--Jim Henley, differing with Steyn on politics

prejudice: n. An adverse judgment or opinion formed beforehand or without knowledge or examination of the facts.

"The excerpt from Mark Steyn’s America Alone that ran in Maclean’s last year is far more blatantly racist than I figured it would be when I began reading it.
--Jim Henley, explaining why he always reads before forming an opinion of anything
More sweet reason from PC Jim.
I knew Steyn was a bigot, with a 1920s obsession with demographic decline. (Cf. Tom Buchanan in Gatsby, who can’t stop talking about Rise of the Colored Empires, “by this man Goddard.”) But I imagined Steyn was more adroit in his use of code words and deniability feints. No! “Just look at the development within Europe, where the number of Muslims is expanding like mosquitoes” is merely the most spectacular example of - not code words. I’m not completely shocked that Steyn would write with such frank bigotry, or that Regnery would publish it. I’m somewhat surprised that an establishment organ like Maclean’s would run it.

"I'm not Politically Correct.
I feel like such a bigot every time I read America Alone
."

Hurry, catch your breath, there's more!
Mark Steyn is a racist douchebag in addition to being a ridiculous figure, which in a way is good, because the case for free speech can’t rest on the idea that speech is harmless or misunderstood or otherwise inconsequential. Speech is dangerous. It does things. If it didn’t, why would we talk at all? There are a lot of reasons not to sanction Steyn or Maclean’s for what he wrote, or even to have a process that presents the possibility. For one, it’s naive to think that the political process, which is all about the deployment of relative power, can sustainably suppress the expression of the strong in favor of the expression of the weak. But my favorite this morning is, I’ll be damned if I’ll give Steyn and his ilk the satisfaction of victimhood.

Jim said "douchebag"!

Poor Jim Henley.

He got all worked up--even got to wax righteously indignant--and one is still patiently waiting for him to explain Steyn's bigotry.

We don't learn anything about all that, but we do learn some things about Jim Henley and Political Correctness: don't disagree with him.

You're a bigot.

And don't write a best-selling book that make the odd Muslim seethe.

You need muzzled.

And Jim will cheer.

And throw in a heapin' helpin' of steamed Jimbo--for free!

Who knew Henley was such a multi-tasking fellow?

Policial Correctness is all about sweet-tempered guys like Jim deciding what the rest of us can read or think. If we don't think like them, we're racists and douchebags and bigots. In Canada and on Jim's cool blog, this PC stuff is all the rage.

Isn't PC a funny idea?

We told you you'd laugh.

The Letter

a·pol·o·gy
[uh-pol-uh-jee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun, plural -gies.
1.a written or spoken expression of one's regret, remorse, or sorrow for having insulted, failed, injured, or wronged another: He demanded an apology from me for calling him a crook. [1]

Do any of the following statements from Lori Drew's letter, which is part of the St. Charles County police investigation, fit the definition of an apology? Do they show remorse, imply regret, or display sorrow for the actions that Lori Drew claimed responsibility for in the St. Charles County Sheriff's Police Report?

The Letter

"We are very sorry for the extreme pain you are going through and can only imagine how difficult it must be. We have every compassion for you and your family.

The Police Incident Report
"Drew explained she wanted to "just tell them" what she did to contribute to the Meier's daughters suicide. Drew stated in the months leading up Meier's daughter's suicide, she instigated and monitored a "my space" account which was created for the sole purpose of communicating with Meier's daughter. Drew said she, with the help of temporary employee named "Ashley," constructed a profile of "good looking" male on "my space" in order to "find out what Megan (Meier's daughter) was saying on on-line about her daughter. Drew explained the communication between the fake male profile and Megan was aimed at gaining Megan's confidence and finding out what Megan felt about her daughter and other people. Drew stated the she, her daughter and Ashley all typed, read and monitored the communication between the fake male profile and Megan. Drew went on to say, the communication became "sexual for a thirteen year old." Drew stated she continued to fake male profile despite the development."

From the most recent statement from Lori Drew via her attorney, Jim Briscoe:

"During this investigation, the Drew family has not commented to the media. Now that the investigation is concluded, we wish to issue this statement.

"First and foremost, the Drew family mourns the death of Megan every day. They previously expressed their sympathies to the Meier family, but the Meiers have made it clear that they do not wish to speak to the Drews, and they have honored the Meier’s request.

"Contrary to statements reported in various news media around the nation in recent weeks, Lori Drew did not create or direct anyone to create the Josh Evans MySpace account.

"Although she was aware of the account, Lori Drew never sent any messages to Megan or to anyone else using this MySpace account.

Naked Twister Has its Fans, But None Are On the Duncanville City Council

Good clean fun you can have at home

Scrabble, anyone?

Town officials cool down a popular hot spot outside of Dallas.
The most popular address on Cedar Ridge Drive is Jim Trulock's split-level home, which has a group sex room and attracts as many as 100 people to swinger parties featuring "Naked Twister" nights.

But the festivities could soon be over. In response to neighbors' complaints, the city has outlawed sex clubs in residential areas. Citations have been issued, and search warrants may be next.

QUOTE OF THE DECADE

"It's crazy that they want to force their morality down our throats."

--Dawn Burton, 45, a regular guest at the Cherry Pit's sex parties, who added, "We're all frustrated."

I bet.

Trulock quiet suburban home is transformed, come weekends, into "The Cherry Pit."

Duncanville, which proclaims itself "The Perfect Blend of Family, Community and Business," is an unlikely venue for a neighborhood swinger club. The city of 36,000 just southwest of Dallas has about 50 places of worship and not a single registered sexually oriented business.

Duncanville officials insist they are not just another prudish Texas town giving the boot to spouse-swappers. They say it all boils down to a matter of law: Trulock is operating a business featuring live sex acts.

"It's not trying to judge anyone or pass judgment on someone's lifestyle," city spokeswoman Tonya Lewis said.

To support its claim, the city notes that the Cherry Pit accepts money from guests and promotes the parties on its Web site.

"We're not about infringing on the rights of the Cherry Pit patrons or owners," Lewis said. "But now your right to have fun has infringed on everyone else's. And now you have to draw the line."

"If you're going to do that, you should open a business," Martin said. "Go somewhere where it's allowed."

Attorneys for Trulock, 59, say the Cherry Pit is nothing more than a private residence where a group of friends get together on weekends to socialize in whatever way they prefer.

While guests are encouraged to make "voluntary donations" to cover the cost of food and refreshments, organizers deny that anyone is being charged admission to his parties.

Ed Klein, an attorney for the Cherry Pit, said many guests give no money, but those who do often chip in $10 or $20. Klein said he plans to file a lawsuit next week that will challenge the constitutionality of the ordinance and seek a temporary restraining order against the city.

"I don't think it's persecution so much as an invasion of their privacy," Klein said.

Arthur Leonard, a New York Law School professor who studies sexuality law, said the size of the parties might be a legal obstacle.

"It seems to me when you have that number of people involved, it becomes more like a public event," Leonard said. "It seems unlikely that a court would find privacy protection for an event this large."

The city has already cited Trulock with three violations, which carry a maximum $2,000 fine. Duncanville City Manager Kent Cagle this week pledged to continue enforcing the new law.

The case against the swinger parties "does appeal to a lot of people's sense of morality," said Lewis, the city spokeswoman. "That's been a lot of complaints we've gotten from residents: 'I came to Duncanville to have a family. I didn't come here to live next to a sex club.
No more Naked Twister?

Duncanville can no longer boast of this ever-popular social ice-breaker.

There goes the neighborhood.

Lori Drew: The Mystery of the Megan Had it Coming Blog

The mystery of why the Megan Had it Coming blog is still up continues.

Another report of the evil blogosphere dogging a helpless victim.

We present another sighting of the "Power of the Evil Bloggers" and a statement released yesterday by Jim Briscoe, Lori Drew's attorney, concerning the Megan Had it Coming blog:

A blogger at a website claiming to be Lori Drew and commenting on the Megan Meier suicide case is an imposter, the Drew family said in a statement issued Friday by their attorney.

The statement says, "First and foremost, the Drew family mourns the death of Megan every day." The statement was the first public comment by Lori and Curt Drew on the death of 13-year-old Megan, although their lawyer has made statements on their behalf.

Friday's statement reiterates that Lori Drew was not aware of any mean or nasty comments made by anyone online against Megan until after Megan took her life. The negative comments that were sent occurred when Lori Drew was not home, and teenagers at other locations also made several negative comments.

"Lori Drew has been a high-profile target of extreme criticism for things she did not do," the family's statement says.

Bloggers have threatened the family and called for boycotts of businesses that advertised with Lori Drew's business. The statement says an "avalanche of criticism" forced her to discontinue a coupon book she had sold in St. Charles County for nine years.

The statement also says the Drews have not and will not participate in any blogs or other discussions online regarding Megan's death, and that anyone posting a message who claims to be a member of the Drew family is an imposter.

Jim Briscoe, the Drews' attorney, said he contacted the operators of a website where many of the messages have appeared and asked that the blog be removed. A company representative said it was reviewing the request. The blog included a defense of Lori Drew's actions and criticized Megan. St. Charles County authorities also are investigating who created the blog.

Megan's parents, Tina and Ron Meier, could not be reached for comment Friday.
Time on the DBKP Megan Had it Coming Blogwatch clock:

19 days, 22 hours, 51 minutes

Since the blog was created.

Only Lori Drew can shut it down. Why hasn't she done so?

Her lawyer says he's trying. If Lori Drew emails Blogger, and the email isn't the same as what was used to set up the blog, the blog would come down immediately.

What's the delay?

Why the hesitation in having Ms. Drew pick up the phone? Or write an email?

Or does she have the power to delete the blog already and not want to touch it, for obvious reasons?

We don't know the answers.

We're just asking the questions.

Democrats and Republicans: Attitudes on Taxes Highlight Difference Between Parties

Rangel tax plan only one of many clever Democrat schemes

A reminder that all political parties are not created equal--at least when it comes to taxes and immigration/open borders.
Cracks are emerging in congressional Democrats' solidarity, as frustrated lawmakers concede their majority status is not enough to overcome Republican resistance on taxes, spending, Iraq and a host of other issues.

The fissures, which became obvious this week, are undermining Democrats' hopes for several key achievements this year. They also point to a bruising 2008 election in which Democrats will say Republicans blocked prudent tax and spending plans to score political points on immigration and other hot-button issues.

Republicans say they simply want to prevent higher taxes of any kind, even if the targets are not-so-sympathetic groups such as oil companies and hedge fund managers.
"Those politicians, they're all alike".

Well, no.

Democrats in Congress think the only reason Republicans have for voting against higher taxes is political pandering.

They truly believe that Americans get up and go to work everyday, not for their families--but to supply tax dollars for Congressmen and Senators to donate to their favorite charities.

The preceding bit of news points out what is still a basic philosophical difference between Congressional Democrats and Republicans. As Ronald Reagan said:

"Republicans believe that every day is the Fourth of July; Democrats, that every day is April 15."

Multicultural Problem: What's Your Favorite Color?

Multiculturalists have plenty of signs to follow

What's a committed multiculturalist to do when you've accumulated so many aggrieved groups and have to judge among whose cause is more important?

I mean, besides hold a Democrat Party fund-raiser.

Mark Steyn reports on an interesting exchange that took place last week. It highlights the problem of 'too many colors in the multicultural rainbow'.

[Australian News reporter Pamela Bone to selective feminist, Germaine Greer, in Melbourne]:

I then asked why it was that Western feminists seemed so reluctant to speak out against things such as honour killings.

Greer: "It's very tricky. I am constantly being asked to go to Darfur to interview rape victims. I can talk to rape victims here. Why should I go to Darfur to talk to rape victims?"

Questioner (me): "Because it's so much worse there."

Greer: "Who says it is?"

Questioner: "I do, because I've been there."

Greer: "Well, it is just very tricky to try to change another culture. We let down the victims of rape here. We haven't got it right in our own courts. What good would it do for me to go over there and try to tell them what to do? I am just part of decadent Western culture and they think we're all going to hell fast and maybe we are all going to hell fast."
Steyn then remarks, "Too "tricky" to speak out against honor killings, and you can't teach an old feminist new tricks."

Multiculturalists have a problem: when all the supposedly put upon groups they champion are seeking preferred treatment--special speech rights and another cut of the government's dole--which one is first among equals?

When you don't have a favorite color, any will do. It works the same way for value systems: once you've rejected the West, any old thing can be best.

A simple solution would be the adherence to a simple creed. Other than "Expedience Rules!"

Something short and sweet and easy to remember. How about

"All men are created equal"?

Of course, this would immediately offend the feminist, lesbian and trans-gendered portion of their audience.

It's also too Western-centric, so that's out.

But clearly, "What's your favorite color?" won't do.

Germanine Greer, in the previous exchange, unknowingly suggests a new rallying cry of multicultural moral equivalence-mongers everywhere. Something to guide them when their way is unclear. How's this?

"It's tricky!"

NBC: Nothing But Crap

The network of Keith Olbermann, Chris Mathews and Rosie O'Donnell has finally found something really objectionable--a salute to U.S. troops.
WASHINGTON (AP) - NBC has rejected a TV ad by Freedom's Watch, a conservative group that supports administration policy in Iraq, that asks viewers to remember and thank U.S. troops during the holiday season.

NBC said it declined to air the ad because it refers to the group's Web site, which the network said was too political, not because of the ad's message.

"Anybody in the world who would look at this ad would come away with nothing other than we should be thankful for their service," Freedom's Watch president Brad Blakeman said.

The spot was to be part of a seven-figure campaign that includes newspaper ads and television commercials. The ads are to run on CNN and Fox News Channel and are running in various newspapers. The New York Times ran a full-page Freedom's Watch ad Friday that said "Thank You!" and depicted a soldier reading a letter. The newspaper ad also contained the Web site address.

Alan Wurtzel, NBC's head of standards and practices, said the network decided not to run the Freedom's Watch ad because the group insisted that the spot contain the URL address of its Web site.

The group's home page links to another Freedom's Watch Web page that lists nonprofit organizations that are sending care packages to soldiers and that suggests other ways of expressing support.

It also contains a welcoming message that states: "For too long, conservatives have lacked a permanent political presence to do battle with the radical special interests groups and their left-wing allies in government."

"We have a policy that prohibits acceptance of advertising that deals with issues of public controversy," Wurtzel said. "This particular ad, in and of itself, is fine. It thanks the troops for their action overseas. We asked them to eliminate a URL address where a person is asked to contact elected officials and told not to cut and run on the war on terror."

NBC rejected a previous Freedom's Watch ad that addressed funding for the troops.

"It's a long-term policy, it goes back decades," Wurtzel said of NBC's stance of declining controversial issue advertising.

He suggested that Freedom's Watch did not alter the ad in order to force NBC to reject it and thus get media attention.

--Source: AP - NBC Rejects "Salute to the Troops" Ad from Conservative Group
NBC can dance and spin all they like: people will watch the video, read the story and come to their own conclusions on this.

And they will most likely decide that they won't end their apathy concerning either NBC or MSNBC's network televised offerings.

Maybe when NBC viewership sinks below that of the Fatty Foods Network or Breathing for Credit Channel, someone will have the sense to let a businessman run the network.

Instead of the rabidly Left ideologues in charge now.

Rhode Island Lesbians: Marriage Without Parole

Now that gay couples are getting married, at least in some states, they're learning the awful truth about the state of matrimony. If you're gonna take that trip to the altar you might want to make sure there's a Fire Exit.

Two lesbians in Rhode Island learned this the hard way. When Cassandra Ormiston and Margaret Chambers' three year marriage hit the skids the two tried to file for a divorce in their home state of Rhode Island. One problem, the state has no provisions for gay couple civil unions much less divorces.

Ormiston and Chambers were married in Massachusetts which recognizes civil unions between gay couples.
Massachusetts, the only state where gay marriage is legal, restricts the unions to residents of states where the marriage would be recognized, and a Massachusetts judge decided last year that Rhode Island is one of those states.
Rhode Island only recognizes civil unions between a man and woman.

Ms. Ormiston, or Mrs. Chambers, we're not sure, was not happy.
"My civil rights, my human rights have been denied," Ormiston said in a phone interview after the ruling. "It's no small matter."
Is Rhode Island's lack of divorce statutes for gay couples a violation of Ms. Ormiston/Mrs. Chambers human rights?

Why would Rhode Island have divorce statutes for gay marriages if the civil unions are not yet on the books?

Unless either of the lesbians relocates to Massachusetts or the unhappy couple patches up their marriage they'll be forced to deal with the old adage, ball and chain.

Dog the Bounty Hunter: Big Rumblings from the Rumor Mill

There has been no news on the Dog the Bounty Hunter. All the news lately has been of the different efforts of the Dog's fans in their quest to get the Dog the Bounty Hunter show back on the airwaves.

So, we scoured and called and wrote. What we came up with was rumblings and rumors.

But, several of the rumors we heard, we heard in more than one place--from more than one source. So we thought that we'd present some of the things we heard and let the readers decide what they thought.

Maybe some of you have heard the same thing, or have information that we don't have.

Here's some of what we heard after a day of Dog info hunting and what we think about it. We know the readers won't be shy about what they think.

[Truth-O-Meter Ratings: 0 (it's probably a lie) to 10 (bet the ranch)]

* The Dog's been laying low.
Not much of a rumor here. It's a fact. Duane "Dog" Chapman has been out of the spotlight for several weeks now.

This is not very surprising, either. In Dog's case, "No News is Good News" right now.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 10.0]

* The Dog will be back in the public eye soon..
Again, this bit of information is easy to believe. The Dog won't stay hidden forever and has got to surface again sometime.

How soon is soon?

For many fans of the Bounty Hunter, it can't be soon enough. One of the common themes, in both comments left at this site and emails we've received, is that people feel a hole has developed in their regular TV viewing habits without their weekly 'dose of Dog'.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 8.5]

* The 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' show will not in the future and may never return to the airwaves.
We don't believe this. We don't believe anything in the world of TV, driven as it is by ratings, is set in stone. Duane Chapman's show was popular and a mainstay in the A & E Network's line-up.

This was one rumor we heard only one time. And we don't even like the guy who said it.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 3.0]

* There has been a "reaching out" to Dog by Afro-American groups.
This one we can believe. From the amount of email and comments we've received from ordinary black folk, there is a great rolling of eyes about what Dog said: but no acrimony, and certainly no hatred.

A great majority of our mail begins, "I'm non-Caucasian and you can tell that Dog is not a racist. He shouldn't have said what he said, but he didn't say it in anger." Or some variation of those thoughts.

If memory serves, there was no outcry against Dog and what was said during his private cellphone conversation by Black America.

Make no mistake: they were not happy, but judging from what we read, they shrugged their shoulders and shook their head at a man using ill-considered bad language.

The outcry came from certain White Americans eager to throw another person under the Political Correctness bus. This outcry came from the same quarters that attempts to stifle speech on college campuses, shout down disagreeable opinions and speakers and regulate Internet bloggers.

To them, this had nothing to do with Dog the Bounty Hunter; many of them wouldn't know Dog Chapman from a carburetor. Duane Chapman was only a means to an end.

Muzzling the Dog was their way of flexing their PC muscles.

Thankfully, those people are a small, if noisy, segment of the American population.

This rumor has substance because: Black or White, no one likes to see a person get railroaded. And Duane Chapman got railroaded.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 7.5]

* Duane Chapman hasn't so much as swore in the last month.
As unbelievable as this might be when first heard, we heard this from multiple sources. Dog is trying hard to clean up his whole language act.

We smiled the first time we heard this; our eyes opened wide, the second time; but the third time, well, what could we say?

As one source told us, "the Dog causing hurt and heartache among some of his fans really hit home with him on the need to clean up his language. He kept saying he was going to clean it up, but I'd heard that before."

"But this time--he accepted the challenge. I'm not saying he won't ever slip up ever again--he's human--but I haven't heard him swear in over three weeks."

One source even told us the Dog's swear-free and said "I swear it!"

After hearing this from three different people, we tend to believe it: after all, if it wasn't true, the National Enquirer would have had it on their front page by now.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 8.0]

* The Dog and Beth are getting a divorce over this whole mess.
I think this guy got Dog confused with another TV show star.
[Truth-O-Meter Rating: 2.0]

So that's it. After a whole day spent on the phone, this is what we dug up.

There was a few other things, but we're going to be doing some more checking on those items over the weekend.

Has anyone heard any of these? Does anyone have any additional information to offer? We'd like to know!

In the meantime, one source had this to pass on to Dog's fans: "Keep your chin up and your ears open."

Lori Drew, Megan Had it Coming: MHIC Author a Troll?

[NOTE: DBKP has examined the 'Megan Had it Coming' Blog and its last post, dated December 3, "I'm Lori Drew". We don't know who is behind the blog--Lori Drew or Internet troll.

However, we've asked Trench Reynolds, who has covered MySpace crime for the last eight years, to give us his opinion.

He makes some good points. Some we agree with, others: we're not so sure. But, he makes several of his points so persuasively, we thought you readers should get a chance to see them and decide for yourselves.]

Hey everybody. My name is Trench Reynolds. Some of you may know me from my blogs about crime, TheTrenchcoat Chronicles and MyCrimeSpace. At the Chronicles I've been blogging since 2000 discussing school shootings and at MCS I talk about MySpace related crimes.

Mondoreb invited me to Death by 1,000 Papercuts (which is the greatest blog name ever) to express my thoughts on the Megan Meier story, specifically the 'Megan Had It Coming Blog'. As a lot of people have I've been following the story closely since it broke nationally. And just like most people I was horrified to read what happened to Megan Meier by people who were supposed to be adults.

When the identity of the Drews were made public by bloggers and commenters I decided that I would not post their names in hopes of not facilitating some kind of vigilante justice. Also I did not want to interfere with the investigation into whether or not criminal files would be charged.

It was after I made that post that someone posted a comment about 'MHIC'. It was also on that same post that someone by the name of 'ANONYMOUS' was leaving comments in defense of Lori Drew and was leaving comments similar to the posts on 'MHIC'.

I conferred with a blogging friend of mine who is a cybersecurity expert and we both agreed that ANONYMOUS and MHIC were the same person. Of course the Internet being what it is a lot of people automatically assumed that it must be Lori Drew without doing any investigation.

Now that's not a dig at DBKP because their own investigation seems to be thorough. However whenever a tragedy like this breaks there's always people willing to take advantage of the situation in order to get some attention. That's what I think is going on with MHIC.

Getting back to ANONYMOUS the e-mail address used to place the comments at MCS traced back to the MySpace of 16-year-old African-American girl from Michigan. It is possible that the address was a fake that coincidentally belonged to this girl's MySpace. However once I made that fact public the MySpace in question disappeared.

The second thing that leads me to believe that MHIC is a fake was the IP address of ANONYMOUS. Every time someone posts a comment at MCS I receive an e- mail that has their IP Address in it. IP addresses are used to trace back to someone's Internet Service Provider (ISP). Through this information I can usually ascertain the person's relative geographical location.

ANONYMOUS' ISP traced back to Louisville, KY which is roughly 260 miles from where the Drews and Meiers lived. IP addresses can be spoofed but if the person really wanted me to believe they were Lori Drew and had the knowledge on how to spoof IP addresses they probably would have made the address trace back to Missouri and not Kentucky.

Lastly, which may just be wishful thinking on my part, after everything that has be relayed in the media and on blogs I'd like to think that Lori Drew would not be that callous or stupid to entitle a blog 'Megan Had It Coming'.

Recently Lori Drew's lawyer said that she had nothing to do with the blog. Mondoreb himself poses the question if it's a hoax why is still up because of Google's imitation rules. My answer to that is I think it's not really a high priority for Google. Not only that if it was Lori Drew I think her lawyer would have advised her to take it down by now which can be done as easily as clicking on a button.

Since civil charges are likely against the Drews I think since the blog is still up that the odds are in favor of MHIC not being written by Lori Drew.

More than likely MHIC was posted by a group of people just looking for the attention and to see how many people they can get to fall for it. In the end I could be wrong but that would mean that Lori Drew is really that stupid and callous and if she is I weep for humanity.

So what do you think?

Is 'Megan Had It Coming' the work of Lori Drew?

Or an Internet troll?

Senate Bill 1959 and Unintended Consequences: Needed Terror Tool or Thought Crime Prevention Act?

The law of unintended consequences?

Back before there was a chicken in every pot, a car in every garage, or a lawyer in every speed dial, laws could be passed and common sense could prevail.

Those days are no longer.

A bill which passed the house and is now being considered in the Senate, Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, Senate Bill 1959, is a piece of legislative mischief waiting to happen.

The overly-broad legislation is another tool in the fight against terrorism, but like all tools, could be used, as written, as a deadly weapon. A more appropriate name might be the Law of Unintended Consequences of 2007.

For conservatives and liberals alike, any legislation is likely to cause unintended consequences. What are we talking about when we say 'unintended consequences'?
For example, it is often conjectured that if the Treaty of Versailles had not imposed such harsh conditions on Germany, World War II would not have occurred. As such, war was an unintended consequence of the Treaty of Versailles.[1]
It's not often DBKP goes looking for ideological back-up on the Left, but in this case, that's where most of the outcry seems to taking place.

Of course, it's all layered with "Bush coup" and "Bush Nazi" and talk of Evil Dick Cheney, but strip away all the overblown rhetoric and political shots they can't seem to resist taking, and there is a point to be made.
More evil unintended consequences than Evil Dick Cheney

This bad bill will make for bad law.
The bill states:

‘...ideologically based violence’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs...

Note that this means the "planned use of force to promote a political or social belief" would be considered an act of terrorism. This all hinges on the definition of "force," of course. Based on the loose use of logic in Washington these days, and the slippery interpretation of the meaning of words, "force" could mean:

• A grassroots campaign to barrage Congress with faxes
• A non-violent street protest
• A letter-writing campaign that deluges the Senate with too much mail
• A sit-in protest that blocks access to a business or organization
• A grassroots e-mail campaign that overloads the e-mail servers of any government department or agency

You get the idea. "Force" could be defined as practically anything. And since the "planned use of force" would be considered a criminal act of terrorism, anyone who simply thinks about a grassroots action campaign would be engaged in terrorist acts.

If you stopped someone on the street and handed them a Bible, for example, this could be considered an act of terrorism ("...use of force to promote the individual's religious beliefs...")

If you sent a barrage of angry letters to Washington about global warming and the destruction of the environment by the U.S. military, this could also be considered an act of terrorism ("...to promote the individual's political beliefs...")

If you believe in same-sex marriage and you wrote a letter threatning a sit-in protest in front of your state's capitol building, this could also be considered an act of terrorism, even if you never carried it out! ("...planned use of force to promote a social belief...")[2]
The authors of the bill and the Bush Administration don't intend the bill to be used like the above examples.

But then, we were assured that the RICO Act would never be used against political protesters. Tell that to the National Right to Life movement. They engaged in a 17-year-long court odyssey to escape from a law that was passed in 1970 to take on organized crime.

Civil libertarians at the time of the bill's passage warned of its misuse and were pooh-poohed. Their worries would have been rightly discounted in a common sense society. Sadly, the U.S. doesn't seem to be that anymore.

The civil seizure laws, which repeatedly were trumpeted as a tool to fight "big drug dealers and cartels" also had unintended consequences. Federal and local law enforcement agencies routinely count on the money made from seized family mobile homes, farms and cars to plan their budgets now.
Police stopped 49-year-old Ethel Hylton at Houston's Hobby Airport and told her she was under arrest because a drug dog had scratched at her luggage. Agents searched her bags and strip-searched her, but they found no drugs.

They did find $39,110 in cash, money she had received from an insurance settlement and her life savings; accumulated through over 20 years of work as a hotel housekeeper and hospital janitor.

Ethel Hylton completely documented where she got the money and was never charged with a crime. But the police kept her money anyway.

Nearly four years later, she is still trying to get her money back.[3]
Advocates for civil seizure laws will point out that Ethel's case is not the norm. That's not much consolation for Ms. Hylton and others who've suffered similar fates. They are victims of unintended consequences of a poorly-written law, just as Senate Bill 1959 is poorly-written.

Some other famous unintended consequences follow.
* Most economists believe that minimum wage laws increase the unemployment rate among low wage workers.

* The stiffening of penalties for driving while intoxicated in the United States in the 1980s led, at first, to an increase in hit and run accidents, most of which were believed to have been drunken drivers trying to escape the law (Later, legislators stiffened penalties for leaving the scene of an accident when driving while intoxicated as well).

* "Prohibition", in the 1920s U.S., originally enacted to suppress the alcohol trade, drove many small-time alcohol suppliers out of business and consolidated the hold of large-scale organized crime over the illegal alcohol industry. By the time the U.S. repealed Prohibition, the brewing industry had concentrated in a few major brewers, which had been able to ride it out. Sixty years later, the "War on Drugs," intended to suppress the illegal drug trade, likewise drove many small-time drug dealers out of business and consolidated the hold of organized drug cartels over the illegal drug industry. Additionally, it has led to the existence of street drugs of unknown strength and contamination; at least some drug-related (and particularly opiate-related) deaths are the result of accidental overdosing on drugs that a dealer neglected to dilute to the usual extent.

* In CIA jargon, "blowback" describes the unintended, even undesirable consequences of covert operations. Examples include:
o Operation Ajax, which contributed to the 1979 Iranian Revolution & the Iran hostage crisis
o Covert funding of the Contras in Nicaragua, which lead to the Iran-Contra Affair
o Covert funding of the Mujahideen, which led to the rise of the Taliban

* Government rent control has led to the unintended consequence of housing shortages and reduction in housing quality, increased difficulty for less desirable renters to obtain or retain housing and even to the creation of slums—areas where owners permit rental property to run down until it becomes uninhabitable, leading renters to leave.

* The locking of aircraft cockpit doors to prevent terrorists taking control of the aircraft resulted in Helios Airways Flight 522 crashing due to the pilots' loss of oxygen and the stewards' inability to control the craft.[4]
This is not an anti-government screed: one of those would take up the better part of a week to construct and there's other, more important, work to do.

This is a call for a less-sloppy bill. Tightening the language to give the authorities a tool to fight legitimate terrorists, without non-terrorists having to worry wouldn't be so hard, would it?

If the bill's proponents can't construct the bill without using the far-reaching, vague language that is in it, then this whole bill needs to scrapped.

Cold.

Anyone who's ever had to stare down a local, let alone a federal, government agency knows the sick feeling the mere threat of prosecution brings.

Company CEOs know the feeling of being railroaded by Eliot Spitzer: pleading guilty to save the time, money and aggravation of facing a zealous prosecutor. And those CEOs had more money and assets available to them then an ordinary citizen caught up in this bill's assured future unintended consequences.

One other unsettling point was raised, though not being a peruser of Senate bills, it's hard to know whether it's valid, or more Left proof of the coming of Evil Dick.
While other government agencies, such as the Department of State, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Defense, are all referred to by their full names in Congressional documents, including this one, apparently the Department of Homeland Security is so big and so much more important than all other agencies, despite its ripe-old-age of 5 years, that now it is officially to be called the Department. No clarification will apparently be necessary any longer.[5]

The U.S. needs tools against terrorists. But it does not need tools against terrorists that have so much potential to be misused.

The Nixon Administration would never have dreamed that RICO would be used against pro-life protesters.

Just as another Republican administration never dreamed that ordinary citizens, not "large drug dealers and cartels" bear the brunt of poorly-written civil seizure laws.

This is a bad bill as written.

Terrorism is better combated with the aid of ordinary American citizens. Those citizens should be eager to help the government fight terrorists that threaten us all. The government needs tools against terrorism, not potential tools against citizens.

Mark down Senate Bill 1959, Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, as another threat.

At Least in America, We Have Free Speech, Right?

Mark Steyn highlights a right that Americans have that most of the rest of the world doesn't, Freedom of Speech. As it's enshrined in the First Amendment, most Americans are taught about it from an early age--or at least, they used to be.

Now, Americans are taught that some speech is free. Other speech is "hate" or "objectionable" or, on the internet, "spam". Especially if the person doing the labeling of the speech disagrees with it.

Americans have been lectured over the last six years that we "were out of touch" with the rest of the world, especially the European democracies. This supposed disconnect with the rest of the world was used as evidence that changes were needed.

As Steyn puts it in Dead Man Writing
[The Corner at National Review Online]:
One of the critical differences between America and the rest of the west is that America has a First Amendment and the rest don't. And a lot of them are far too comfortable with the notion that in free societies it is right and proper for the state to regulate speech.
He then goes on to list some of the countries Americans normally think of having free speech and how those countries have recently dealt with speech they considered 'disagreeable'.
* The response of the EU Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security to the Danish cartoons was to propose a press charter that would oblige newspapers to exercise "prudence" on, ah, certain controversial subjects.

* The response of Tony Blair's ministry to the problems of "Londonistan" was to propose a sweeping law dramatically constraining free discussion of religion.

* At the end of her life, Oriana Fallaci was being sued in France, Italy, Switzerland and sundry other jurisdictions by groups who believed her opinions were not merely disagreeable but criminal.

* In France, Michel Houellebecq was sued by Muslim and other "anti-racist" groups who believed opinions held by a fictional character in one of his novels were not merely disagreeable but criminal.

* Up north, the Canadian Islamic Congress announced the other day that at least two of Canada’s “Human Rights Commissions” – one federal, one provincial – had agreed to hear their complaints that their “human rights” had been breached by this “flagrantly Islamophobic” excerpt from my book, as published in the country’s bestselling news magazine, Maclean’s.

He provides a chilling look at the Canadian government's method of dealing with disagreeable, upsetting speech. He also provides for the defense of his best-selling book, America Alone, which has upset Muslims north of the border.
If the Canadian Islamic Congress wants to disagree with my book, fine. Join the club. But, if they want to criminalize it, nuts. That way lies madness.

America Alone was a bestseller in Canada, made all the literary Top Ten hit parades, Number One at Amazon Canada, Number One on The National Post’s national bestseller list, Number One on various local sales charts from statist Quebec to cowboy Alberta, etc. I find it difficult to imagine that a Canadian “human rights” tribunal would rule that all those Canadians who bought the book were wrong and that it is beyond the bounds of acceptable (and legal) discourse in Canada.

As I say, I find it difficult to imagine. But not impossible. These "human rights" censors started with small fry - obscure websites, "homophobes" who made the mistake of writing letters to local newspapers or quoting the more robust chunks of Leviticus - and, because they got away with it, it now seems entirely reasonable for a Canadian pseudo-court to sit in judgment on the content of a mainstream magazine and put a big old "libel chill" over critical areas of public debate.

The "progressive" left has grown accustomed to the regulation of speech, thinking it just a useful way of sticking it to Christian fundamentalists, right-wing columnists, and other despised groups. They don’t know they’re riding a tiger that in the end will devour them, too.
Hate speech, hate crimes: the whole idea that some groups or speech have a "special", extra-constitutional right to protection, oftentimes at the expense of the rest of society. That this speech, these groups need more protection than the Consitution itself can provide, is a recent one in America.
The entire category of hate crimes should offend Americans. It attempts to criminalize thought processes in a manner that smacks of political correctness and thought-policing. The criminality of murder springs from the loss of life, not from the motive. Regardless of whether a husband hates a wife or a stranger hates a minority, murder remains murder, assault remains assault, and all should be vigorously prosecuted regardless of apparent bigotry or lack of same.

Congress shouldn't expand hate-crime categories; they should eliminate them. Crimes like murder, assault, and the like don't belong under federal jurisdiction in any case. The states have jurisdiction over these crimes, unless someone can prove a violation of the Constitution, which usually applies to such crimes committed under color of authority.[1]

But surely, losing freedom of speech couldn't happen in America? Not with our First Amendment?

Think about it the next time an aggrieved group trots out the label "hate speech".

Think about this the next time a college or university disciplines, expels or suspends a student for saying something the college thinks will "foster an unfavorable environment".

Think about it the next time the NCAA disciplines a college sports team for using a Native American nickname--whether the tribe in question approved it or not.

Think about it the next time protesters disrupt a meeting, debate or speech-- conservatives are the targets at the moment, but it could be liberals in the future--by physically attacking them.

Think about it the next time some group calls on Congress or a state legislature to designate disagreeable speech as a "hate crime".

Think about it the next time Environmentalists compare any dissenting opinions, research or information that runs counter to "Global Warming" or "Man-made Climate Change" to Holocaust Denial, i.e., "hate speech".

Think about it the next time the headlines scream "Man Arrested for Child Porn" and a closer reading finds that his crime was not possessing any child porn, but images that "appeared" to be of the offending material.

And lastly, think about it VERY hard the next time you hear of a law being considered to outlaw various speech on the Internet--arguably, the freest forum left where Americans and others around the world can speak their minds.

It can't happen here in America?

Think about it.

Hsu Indicted, Clinton Excited?

The Occasional Cox & Forkum

From Fresno Bee: Norman Hsu's legal woes likely to follow Clinton.

Norman Hsu was politician's dream who became a nightmare. He knew people, hosted fundraisers, solicited donations. And he was an unabashed fan of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Now in disgrace, his role as one of Clinton's top money bundlers will dog him and her presidential campaign while law enforcement authorities investigate his business and political dealings.

Eager to sever her links to Hsu, the Clinton campaign this week returned $850,000 in contributions linked to his fundraising activities. But Hsu's troubles aren't over and the spotlight on his political connections won't recede easily.

Hsu is the latest poster boy for rogue fundraising, a man whose political shoulder rubbing reinvented him and then did him in. For Clinton, Hsu threatens to be an unwelcome reminder of the fundraising scandals that pursued her husband and the Democratic Party in the 1990s.

Joseph Birkenstock, a former chief counsel for the Democratic National Committee, said it would be unfair to link her presidential campaign to 12-year-old instances of money laundering and Lincoln Bedroom sleepovers for major Democratic donors.

"But given her last name," he said, "the bar is somewhat higher for her politically than it would be for others."
